IMO middle may be the only place in which Texas has a distinct advantage. I certainly think Nebraska passes, defends and sets the ball better. I think they may also have the better "pair" of OH's. Nebraska also has overall the better "players" (not athletes) Haggerty didnt digress, she didnt get better, and the setting hasnt been anywhere near as good as it was her freshman year. I wouldnt consider Ambers numbers "pathetic" she was a sub par attacker and a darn good blocker. I think Texas has an advantage at RS as well! very possible. Particularly early in the season, I like the areas in which I think Nebraska is better.

Bottom line, this will be a real measuring stick game for this early in the season. We'll get a lot of good insight to both teams.
I'm expecting Texass to win it.

Neb in 4 ... Big Red's strong side attack and Foecke will school the Horns. Texas will win!

How has Nebraska earned a #4 ranking? Ready, set, go... They returned every player except one, Mary Pohlmiller, setter, and we have an even better setter in Kelly Hunter.

We've all seen Nebraska's middle attack when it catches fire, and when it does, the Huskers will win faster than you can say, "HORNS DOWN"!! Hold the phone! Nebraska has a middle attack? Can't say I've seen one against Texas the last few years. Haggerty was good as a freshman, but has regressed each season since then. Haggerty and Ostrander were dreadful last season against Texas in Lincoln; Keil was good, but is gone now. Amber's stats were pretty pathetic, as well, but move to middle this year makes things hard to gauge. www.texassports.com/boxscore.aspx?path=wvball&id=7454Ok, ok, it was just one game... But against Washington last year in the Regional Semis, Cici Hall and Meghan Haggerty combined for 20 kills, hitting .740, with zero errors. If our middles catch fire again...

Nebraska is playing well in all areas except blocking. If they can improve that, Nebraska in 3. I too believe that this is a test for both teams. The test IMO is not physical, this match will be an excellent test of mentality. If Texas puts up a block and we get down, how will our players respond. With the maturity and leadership that Cook says Hunter has hopefully she will shine.

Against the middle blocking of All-Americans Chiaka Ogbogu and Molly McCage. They're still around by the way . . .

The key to this matchup is Kelly Hunter...and from all indications , she is really up to the task...Nebraska should win in 4. But all the sets will be close. Texas first contact is not good. I don't care how they coat it. Big edge to Nebraska there.

Moonballs are easy to set up a defense on though. Might be a block party.... lol Nebraska will win serve/pass. and i think that is what makes the differences in the matches at this level. Why I say this? MY teams that have lost the big one's over the years, always lost at the serve pass. It really wins matches. Many reasons why. I wish this match was on television. Blah. Any streams going to be available?

Texas has no advantage on RS. With Foecke at Nebraska. They can match with anyone. freshman or not this kid is a Big Time Player....she can really do damage.

Foecke looked real good this past weekend, but Nebraska need's to utilize her more in unique ways. I think Nebraska will be a real fine tuned team by mid season. They need to move around Amber and Anni as well in different spots. Really diverse up the offense and do some wild stuff. I'd like to see some quicks to Foecke on the right. Though, foecke needs some work on her timing for her block. But she does very well offensively. She's the real deal for sure. I really liked Amber in the middle too, such a different player there.
Anni was Nebraska's 2015 SHOCK. She's pretty good on the net as well. What makes Nebraska go well this season is that back court. Justine Wong, Maloney, Townsend and Anni. WOW. So pretty to watch. Justine has really showed my why libero's need more attention. She can control a match back there. She controls so much of the tempo Nebraska runs offensively when she passes. Like those quick passes to certain area's she will send Kelly. Pretty stuff.
Think we will see some FIEN this weekend too. Man, she was lights out good last weekend as well. Pretty hard to swallow if we don't see lots of her this season, especially being preseason all Big 10.
