I noticed you updated the original post on Sunday evening to reflect changes in the past week. Based on a review of information on Rich Kern's website, two additional changes are needed: 1. Remove Valparaiso from the Undefeated list. They have a record of 9-1 after losing to Loyola-Chicago on Sunday. 2. Remove Southern from the Defeated list. They have a record of 1-10 after a win over Alcorn State last Wednesday. Alcorn State played a Southern team that I believe is Division II. This Southern team had no match against Alcorn State on their schedule so the data on Rich Kern is wrong. Alcorn State played (and lost to) Southern Univ. at New Orleans which is NAIA. The DI Southern University (Baton Rogue) is still winless.

Radford's site shows them 5-4 with a win against Grambling on 9-9. Rich's site doesn't show this match. The Grambling website is not very current... Anyone know for sure if this match took place?

The match was on 9/12 and has been reported on the NCAA results website. That is pretty definitive for me.

Alex did great job and had to move out just to survive! I remember Mitch as a player at NUY, but have no idea about his coaching abilities. Time will tell.

So far the results at Hartford speak for themselves... the previous coach made lemonade considering the low level of support provided by the school. They will be due for quite a few years of coaching turnover and poor results (again) if I had to guess. The athletic department seems to have caviar taste on a tuna fish budget.

Dude, take a breather. Mitch arrived with nearly no recruiting for this year or next done by the previous coach. The former guy may have been a solid coach, but he left the cupboard entirely bare for the next two years. They graduated 3 of their top 5 scorers and their setter and the remaining kids on the roster from the previous coach didn't have a lot of game experience. He also left the program with no one lined up to take their place. Three of the four recruits they did get this year were brought in by the current staff. They already have four commits for next year and the staff has been pounding the pavement for new talent into the program. Maybe we give them a few years to dig out of the hole they were left in.

Nope. A few weeks under a new coach, the jury is in. No question about it.

They already have four commits for next year and the staff has been pounding the pavement for new talent into the program. Maybe we give them a few years to dig out of the hole they were left in. You'll need to check your numbers. They graduated their setter (probably their best player) and their #1 OH (and she admittedly was #1 by a lot). The only other graduate was an MH used in about half the matches. Their top 5 scorers last year were (in order): Nethersole (graduated) Henchy (returned), #1 in blocks last year Gawrych (returned), #2 in blocks last year Horanzy (new coach released her?) 3rd in digs behind their setter and graduated OH Goodwin (new coach released her too?) who was also #3 in blocks The libero returned and their current kill and dig leader (freshman) was brought in by the previous coach. Last year they finished 17-13, now they are 0-11 with just graduating their setter and OH1. Any other changes were within the control of the current staff (and you said he brought in 3 recruits). Lastly, what coach that was going to be leaving would go out and recruit kids into a school with an uncertain situation? What if your boy didn't like the new recruits and declined to renew their scholarships? These are kids lives, coaches need to do the right thing by them. Well, you must be a friend of the old coach. The new coach did not release any athletes. If they left, they left on their own. Oh, and a coach that is planning on leaving generally still manages to do their job (and that includes recruiting) especially if they care about the future of the program they're leaving.

What about Buffalo? How did they fall this far? Did Reed leave the cupboard that bare?
It's one thing to lose to Penn state and Washington, but they are losing to Canisius and Stony Brook

Is Buffalo such a name-brand, traditionally strong program that losing to Canisius and Stony Brook is that outrageous or surprising ?
