Stats from the last two meetings with the Nittany Lions: www.huskers.com/pdf9/2880715.pdf (10.3.2014) www.huskers.com/pdf9/3013606.pdf (11.29.2014) Last season Nebraska did a nice job containing Whitney and the middles, but we had absolutely no answer to Frantti. I have a feeling that Friday's defense will be counter to what occurred last year. We'll stifle their OHs but have difficulty slowing down Washington and Whitney.

Most of that would be true with side-out scoring, but a kill is always awarded a point in rally scoring. You're correct about blocking, which would limit the amount of kills one could theoretically score in a typical set to 25. In regards to aces, overpass kills from shanked passes are counted as kills in the NCAA, so every time Micha pounded one from the end line that came cruising back over the net and put down by Frantti, Washington or Whitney, the attacker got credited with a kill. One thing to note, too, is that Weiskircher split time with another setter at the beginning of the season, so her assists/set would be lower if she was on the court for only three rotations.

I'm sure Nebraska feels they are a better team than Minnesota so they are probably rather confident catching Penn State right now on the schedule.

I agree, and just to be clear, I don't believe Nebraska would scout 2014 PSU for the match on Friday. My intention of posting the box scores was to show how some of these ladies have been able to slow down and contain some of the hitters for PSU, especially when they had a better setter.

I would think there is only a few stats if any that we could use at this point of the season. I like the one that had the matches and sets wins and losses totals.

Gosh, I sure hope the twins continue their production line from last year against PSU. Yikes. Agreed. Fortunately the Rolfzens are now in positions in which they thrive offensively and defensively. Last time against PSU, Kadie got pulled at the start of set 1 because Amber got aced by Micha, and Nebraska didn't have the fire power with Mary's setting to overcome PSU's stellar defense.

I'm sure Nebraska feels they are a better team than Minnesota so they are probably rather confident catching Penn State right now on the schedule. That's one perspective. Another is that Minnesota got PSU's players' attention making it easier for Rose to prepare them for Nebraska which should lead to better effort/execution from PSU in this match. Who knows? I like PSU because they've shown a higher level of play this year than Nebraska and the match is in Rec. However, the gap isn't large enough between the teams where Nebraska has no shot, they could certainly pull the upset.
