Too many hitting errors in that set, as hitters took more chances with the lead, but very comfortable in the end. Tionna ends it 25-19. Williams was a force on the block this match. So the difference between "very comfortable" and "gave Minnie some trouble" is five Northwestern points? I was basing the idea that Minnie had some trouble with NW on what was written in the thread on the Minn-NW match. When you look at the progression of the matches, you can see why the matches would feel different. Minn had it easy in the first set, but couldn't get more than 3 point separation in the second before winning it by 2, and were tied at 20 in the third, after which Minn finished with a flourish (a trend this year compared to last). www.gophersports.com/gametracker/launch/gt_wvolley.html?event=1428697&school=minn&sport=wvolley&camefrom=&startschool=&The reason this match felt a lot more comfortable for the badgers is they opened up large leads in every set before reaching the 15 point mark. After that they played side out volleyball. The matches were never close. www.cstv.com/gametracker/launch/gt_wvolley.html?event=1424849&school=cbs&sport=wvolley&camefrom=&startschool=&

Kriskova gets into the 1,000 kill club with this match! I think she is now something like 1,005. She had 884 coming into the season. I don't know if she gets on the list because of her two seasons at VCU.

Has Gillis been doing well passing and defense to make up for her weaker offensive ability? She has had some nice digs in the last two matches, but they have taken her out of the passing rotation at this point, going with Morey, Bates, and MacDonald when she is in the back row for Kriskova.

I thought the Badgers got off to a slow start, but it was nice to get the sweep. If you had told me the Northwestern middles would outhit their Badger counterparts before the match, I would have not expected that result, but the pin hitters and blocking got the job done. Kriskova had another good match, which does a lot for the Badger offense. Solid passing also helped, as the Wildcats targeted Bates but didn't find consistent success with that. I didn't think the Badger block was as good against the middles as it was against Illinois, but it really made it tough on the pin hitters. Tashima is a good setter, but she didn't have a lot to work with this afternoon. It was an encouraging week for Wisconsin, as they seem to be figuring things out and playing more cleanly on their side of the net. I also liked trying Duello as a serving sub for Gillis, as she was able to cause some disruption with her serves. She also missed a block cover, though, which may have been why she wasn't there in the next rotation.

Now that the Badgers had overcome the PTW-100%-Pick-Jinx, sky is the limit!

Kt Kvas, a former Badger, does commentary for some home matches on the radio broadcast, if I am not mistaken. I wonder if the passing stats for the Badgers are a bit different from those for other teams, as Carlini can make sets that are not options for most setters. If memory serves, she did that today setting Nelson for a kill on the slide on a ball that was close to the three meter line. She also excels at back sets against the grain when she gets pulled left.

Every 100 percent PTW in volleytalk has been wisconsin, and they've lost all of them. The 3 matches that Wisconsin was picked to win by 100% of the PTW entries were against: - Western Kentucky - Arkansas - Northwestern -- Wisconsin broke the jinx by winning that match

I don't know where she got the numbers. Maybe she was making a guess herself, as she was a DS and is probably familiar with how to score the passing.
