Doesn't Owens for Northridge remind anyone of Kristee Porter? My gosh she is a very nice player for the Matadors. She is only a freshman but she has the potential to be a player like Porter or Willoughby, a real terminator! Umm NO Kristee and KIm W were great from the get go. Actually Kim Willoughby was great from the very beginning, Porter wasn't. Porter's teammate, Ashley Bowles outshined Porter in her freshman year. Porter was great from sophomore and on.

Porter was great from sophomore year til the end of career at UCLA. No offense but Kristee was the 1998 Pac 10 freshmen of the year.

Actually Aeryn Owens at times tonight did remind me of Kristee Porter as well. Porter was very raw her freshman year, but you could see her talent and it's only a matter of time. It didn't help matters for the Matadors with their awful passing and setting tonight, this is definitely not the Northridge we're used to seeing, they've lost a lot of key players.

And there was nothing special about her kills, basically just hit seam cross court... Kim and Kristie were athletic beast, this girl isn't even close..

I have to say that was a very boring match. The only person making exciting plays was Kahakai, the rest of the starting line up was just going through the motions. It would have been more exciting if Shoji put in his bench and let them play it out. Why leave Taylor in sooo long in a match like that one?

good efficient match for hawaii. middles weren't as involved, but they didn't need to be. csun didn't put much pressure on hawaii, and kendra did a good job nevertheless of spreading the offense pin to pin.
the block was on. kendra adds a greater dimension. there's no 'short blocker' that opposing teams can exploit at any time in hawaii's rotation.
also like the increased use of the back row attack. taylor is a given that she'll be used. olevao has shown she can be effective out of the pipe as well.
but greeley was also pretty effective tonight. using her as a back row option really helped her hit for such a high efficiency. it gives her a different look that csun wasn't prepared to defend. i hope there's more of this from greeley, b/c it doesn't just give her the same predictable high outside set. (it's funny that hawaii will run a much faster set to the pipe than they do to the outside. if they can do one, i think they can also do the other.)
taylor and olevao had some pretty spectacular kills, and kahakai had a couple spectacular digs.

this csun team also looks like they have a good foundation for the next couple of years. owens, dragovic and hess are all freshmen. they will remember a season like the one they're having now, and use it a motivation down the road.
owens in particular is very dynamic. dragovic also could be very good for them all-around.

Unless one (or two or all) of them transfer. I thought Hawaii had a nice core back in 2010 (6'2 Hartong, 6'3 Waber, 6'1 Goodman, 5'9 Uiato, R 6'1 Tuaniga), but some players didn't pan out, injuries, and a player transfered. In the end, this core, actally did not make any Elite 8.

That's because Northridge's passing was horrible. Setting was also horrible. Try and get a clue next time. You can't hit if you're not getting a good set.
