I understand. It is a sound strategy and with such good defense, they really just need to get people doing what they don't like. I just would think they would love to disrupt the other team's offense a little more and revel in the fact that they can outdig the other team. They have a mixed level of serving. I think how the coach(es) call the serves depends somehwat on the opponent. Last weekend against Michigan and Michigan State I thought overall they served very well. They do get some aces, however, they're not an overpowering heavily ace oriented type of team. They seem to more use their serves to force opposing teams to be more predictable on what they can do offensively. Since they trust their defense so much I don't think they worry much about trying to overpower teams with their serves.

But I totally agree with you if you're saying they REALLY could have used some serves that took OSU out of their offense.

From what I could tell the thing that hurt the Gophers other than Stacy Gordon's offensive numbers was that they allowed the Buckeyes to get 9 aces.
The Gophers have given up 38 aces for the entire season and 17 of those have come in two match - giving up 8 aces to Rice and 9 to Ohio State.
I'd like to be able to see video from both of those matches to see if there is anything in common with the manner those two teams served against Minnesota compared to the other teams they've played that have had significantly less success.

Let us know after you try watching the TIVO'd copy of the match whether the last two games of the match actually got recorded. My son said that only Games 1 & 2 were Tivo'd. He followed up and said that his buddy saw it the next day in it's entirety but Tivo did see it on the schedule. Bummer!

I believe someone else earlier in this thread mention that the match is suppose to be televised again sometime late morning today.
You might try setting TV to record it again.

From watching the match, I came to realize that the gophers really need to set the middles more--especially Nelson. She hit .400 for the match but only had 17 attempts in 4 games. That is not enough for an athletic player who can put the ball down.
