Ah, so you've been watching practices. Then I must defer to your superior knowledge. I hope you are right. More than anything, I enjoy watching well-played volleyball, which we didn't get enough of last year. So tell me, in your estimation, has Jake Langlois improved as much from his sophomore to junior season as he did from his freshman to sophomore one? Well, I'm not called byuinsider for nothing Completely agree on the well-played volleyball part. Last year was kind of a disaster. Langlois certainly hasn't improved as much from his sophomore to junior years as he did from a freshman to sophomore - but the improvement and experience on the national team definitely shows. Last year's improvement was insane for Langlois. Of course, it helps being 6-10. "Well, I'm not called byuinsider for nothing." Touche. I think I'm getting jet lag from traveling through all these posts. It was insane how much he had improved last year. I was blown away by his performance in the match against Lewis, especially after the shaky one versus Loyola.

I think Hawaii could surprise some.....Hawaii has a foundation still there with 4 starters returning. The lost of Averill is what will hit them the most and Sedore to an extent (although Sedore seemed to have fizzled out right after senior night and his proposal to his gf.) I think Hawaii has brought in a boat load of freshmen talent that could do some wonders. We shall see. Probably middle of the pack team.

You just keep squashing my hopes for a Pfeiffer national championship with your logical reasoning, and the season hasn't even begun. I still believe though. It's time for the underdogs to shine, unless of course they should end up facing BYU. Coker looked like the team to beat from CC at Mason's preseason tournament. Don't know if pfeiffer was at full strength or not but they weren't even the second best CC team there. And don't count out Mason in the EIVA. The new coach has turned the program upside down and their starters looked good. It will be interesting to see how Mason does in the first four matches of the season against UCLA, UCI, BYU and OSU. Penn State always seems to reload but they lost a ton of seniors last year and one of their main coaches. Mason could have a shot of breaking through this year. It will be fun to watch. Wow guys, it surprises me over and over how few people know and how much they talk. Coker does not even compete as a Conference Carolinas team, they are independent since last year. Pfeiffer lost Specian what makes them only a shadow of their former selves anymore. If not everything goes wrong, Erskine will take CC without much an issue, they beat Coker at the King tournament 2-0 and an in shape Michelau is going to win the conference alone. Mt. Olive though has a very good foreign recruiting class and a good coach, they will definitely be to watch.

Other than that, I don't know how some of you think Ohio st. will make the tournament, Loyola will come out on top of the MIVA as usual, so will PSU in the EIVA. Both at large bids should go to the MPSF as they are heavily loaded again. My guess is BYU, UCLA and LBSU.

As someone who played at the D1/D2 Level 2 years ago, and continues to watch and stay in with every game this year, I'll give my predictions on every conference haha EIVA - 1. George Mason 2. Penn State 3. NJIT 4. St. Francis ------------------ 5. Princeton 6. Harvard 7. Sacred Heart 8. Charleston MIVA - 1. Ohio State 2. Loyola (Lost both starting outsides, have a transfer outside from a CC in California that will definitely know how to play at a college level) 3. Lewis (Lost both starting outsides I believe, and their opposite) 4. Lindenwood (Brought back whole team I believe, played against them, very strong) 5. Ball St. 6. Grand Canyon (Looked strong in the beginning of the year last year, didn't lose many) 7. Mckendree (Haven't graduated anyone, added a big 6'7'' outside hitter, went 10-4 out of conference last year) Sleeper Pick 8. Quincy (Added some big recruits and transfers, see them doing well outside of conference) 9. IPFW (New head coach, 2 new middles, new setter, new outside, young and will struggle) I'm not good with the MPSF so I'm just going to ignore it CC - 1. Mount Olive 2. Pfeiffer 3. Belmont Abbey 4. Erskine 5. North Greenville (Very strong and looking to build, second year program, but went 10-20, beating Mt. Olive in 5 last year, Charleston in 5, Holy Names in 5, lost to AB in 5, beat King in 4, Lees-Mc in 4) 6. King 7. Limestone 8. Barton 9. Lees-McRae 10. Emmanuel

They could be swapped with Princeton. Looked very strong near the end of the season, if they got swept, it was by close margins for at least 2/3 sets.
Vs Saint Francis - W 3-1 21-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-22 Vs Penn State - L 2-3 29-27, 15-25, 25-23, 16-25, 13-15 Vs Sacred Heart - L 0-3 14-25, 35-37, 23-25 Vs Harvard - W 3-1 25-19, 32-30, 21-25, 25-17 Vs Springfield - L 1-3 26-24, 25-27, 18-25, 16-25 Vs Rutgers-Newark - W 3-0 25-17, 25-16, 25-21 Vs St. Francis - W 3-1 25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19 Box Score Details Vs Penn State - L 0-3 28-30, 21-25, 21-25 Box Score Details Vs George Mason - L 1-3 21-25, 25-23, 23-25, 19-25 Box Score Details
They also brought in a new libero from Hawaii who might help the back row and a 6'5'' setter who was all-state in high school

It's nice to get some thoughts on other conferences and other teams in the MPSF. Thanks everyone.

I have to think Hawaii will be on the better side of the top 10 this season, those passes were dropping onto my forehead last season.

Both at large bids should go to the MPSF as they are heavily loaded again. My guess is BYU, UCLA and LBSU. As Libero83 mentioned, Loyola has to replace both Outsides (Jaeschke and Caldwell[when healthy]) who had been 2/3rds of their rock solid serve receive the last 3 years on top of being two very reliable hitters. Ohio State had a rough 2013 and rebounded nicely last year but they lost a couple of hitters to graduation. I think OSU will find a way to stay competitive as they have a track record of doing so for a long time (sans 2013). I don't see a clear favorite, though I would obviously like Loyola to come out on top, vballer97.

IMHO, BYU is the heads-above-the-rest favorite-- and the few coaches I've spoken to have hinted at that. The only areas that are "questionable" (if there were any) would be , Coach Olmstead getting the guys to buy-in to whatever he plans on doing, setting (Sutton or Heap) and Libero (Chang?). They're going to be good (and deep)at Opp, Patch/Heninger/Dobbert who have all delivered BIG at different times; Sander/Langlois at OH with Meretev who can come in; and Grosh/Hatch in the Middle.
In the MPSF it's going to be a nailbiter for the 2-8 spots for the MPSF Tourney (again). LB St. has serious potential, while UCI knows how to get it done. UCLA is always going be there also, but the team that I feel that nobody is paying attention to is UCSB-- they've got a GOOD Jonah Seif coming back and when the pins are on, they are a tough team to beat. I haven't even mentioned Pepperdine who seems to get good when it counts. And although Micah has left USC, Mullahey has proven he can play as well.
In the MIVA, the big talk is Ohio St. and how big/physical they will be. Then of course Loyola with talented MHs and Opps in Plaisted and Gevis. I saw Lewis and although they were a little rough, they served the spit out of the ball and played good defense. They'll get better.
In the EIVA, you gotta look at Penn St., but coming into the mix will be GMU with Jay Hosack taking the helm.
I can't wait...
