I'm calling it Hawaii will host again in MPSF quarters. They bring back all their passing, backrow defense and setting, and Froshie Van Tilburg is more than making up for the loss of Sedore. Mol now healthy will be the super serving sub. Hawaii however will a little weak in the middle without Averill , but expect Frank and Mckellar to improve as the season goes on.

Do you think they're on a level with BYU/ able to get an at-large bid, assuming the mpsf gets both this year?

I feel Stanford is going to be good too with the return of Shaw and the addition of Jordan Ewert

Not a lot to add to that! Loyola's middles are so strong. If Loyola maintains high level serve receive they'll be in a good spot to 3 peat the MIVA If we're talking about the MIVA tournament, Loyola is looking to 4-peat. They have defeated Lewis in the Final the last three years.

I didn't include Hawaii in my "breakdown" because they had a split-squad at the Long Beach Tournament while Jennings F. was up at pepperdine. I couldn't get a good read on the team (which is a bummer), but Kupono Fey is one of "My Guys to Watch". I think a lot is going to fall upon his and Jennings' shoulders-- oh yeah, and Kanetake too. Fact of the matter is Hawaii is going to be in that 2-8 battling group.

Hawaii's left sides and its passing/defense will probably be what anchors them this year. Inexperience at Opposite and middles will be a work in progress. But Hawaii has what it takes to make a little noise and ruffle a little feathers in the conference. They also have teams like UCI, BYU, UCLA, Long Beach State all AT HOME which helps big time and could help spark confidence in this experienced yet inexperienced bunch of guys.

HOW could I forget Siki? He had huge matches last year. And thanks for bringing up the locales for their matches. Hosting those teams are going to be HUGE down the stretch. The question will be come post-season is can they win away from the Island (as armchair analysts and commentators asked frequently last year).
