Wisconsin in 3, Purdue is far too error prone and far too dependent on Drews to carry them. She has not matched up well against the Badgers. A sell out might help Purdue gain a few points but it won't be enough

For Purdue to win will require:
Evans needs to keep Adelaja and Cuttino consistently involved in the offense - too many periods of not working to get sets to the middles Drews needs to get her kills and no more - don't force OOS Epenesa, Stahl and Smith need to combine for plus .200 - vital! Serve receive needs to cut down SRV RE - Mich St match recorded 12 Block needs to eliminate silly BE - Mich St match recorded only 1 which must be a season best Service error to ace ratio - Mich St match was 7-7 - nice balance of aggressive vs. controlled
Senior Night for Drews, Epenesa, Fisher, Neill and Workman.
Purdue in 5!

Purdue has better middles and RS. I think we will fail to agree here, Nelson/Williams are several steps ahead of Cuttino/Adeleja. Blocking Errors to total blocks C/A = 43 to 218 N/W - 21 to 262 Hitting C/A = 4.4 KPS, .380 N/W = 4.8 kps, .380 Digs C/A = .4 dps N/W = .8 dps Big Ten Individual honors C/A = None Nelson - Player of the week (1X), Defensive (1X) Williams - Defensive (2X), Freshman (2X) No idea about serving because too many teams do not show total serves anymore or serving percentage

Middles need to be able to handle a pass as well, only reason it was included. Left out set per set at least

In terms of firepower both duos are quite effective. I've seen a couple matches of Williams - she is going to be a great one to watch develop, and has a great mentor in Nelson.
For this match, I hope all show up and make it an exciting one!
As a Purdue fan - Wisconsin is a team that seems to just have Purdue figured out.

I think that Adelaja and Cuttino are better offensive middles than their stats show, but Purdue's passing has broken down so easily that they aren't getting quality sets, so their effectiveness is highly diminished.
I do remember from the teams' last meeting at the Field House that the Purdue middles made a ton of blocking errors, particularly net violations. So that's more on them.

Middles need to be able to handle a pass as well, only reason it was included. Left out set per set at least Nelson is the only middle to serve out of this group. I would hazard a guess that almost all of her digs come out of the back row. BE cleanliness definitely goes to NW. A weakness that fortunately Purdue has cleaned up dramatically in the last few outings. The Carlini factor cannot be discounted when you discuss the effectiveness of the middles for the Badgers.

Recently, she's been picking up a lot of short serves and short free balls, sending them straight to LC, who often feeds them right back to her to put away.

I think lot of those errors come in transition. The Purdue middles are athletic and can move around, but at the end of extended point they seem to try to do too much and get a bit out of control. EDIT: They've been much better at this recently!

Teams have been trying to serve her out of attacking now and again, but Haleigh has been great picking up the short serves and attacking with the give and go. Also, one of the reasons she is allowed to serve is that she is not much of a liability in the back row -- compared to other middles anyway.

Offensively, Nelson right now is as good as anyone in the country over the last 12 weeks -- except for Sybeldon who has been off the charts good. Williams is catching up.

Wisconsin needs to be very careful with this one. Purdue is is playing hard of late.

I agree. Will have to match Purdue's intensity, which will be a challenge on senior night.

Watching Purdue I see the middles having to adjust to Evans sets because the connection isn't there. No knock on Evans she is a first year converted setter. I think that Wisconsins floor defense and serve receive is better which allows them to run Nelson and Williams more often. Also there is no measuring the Carlini effect. She is the best setter in the country I don't doubt Cuttino could be an AA with her setting and possibly Adelaja.
