Eczacibasi is in trouble in the Champions League. Pomi (Lloyd/Gibby) beat Chemik Police, the top Polish team, on the road today and it looks like they will win the "group of death." Ecz need a win at Pomi next week (who beat them in Istanbul) or they might not make it out of the group stage into the playoffs. Given they needed 5 to get past a Czech team at home this week and Kreklow is doubtful, that could be very problematic for them. What's worse - they have one of the only matches in the Turkish League they need to worry about this weekend - derby with Vakif - so they probably can't rest the starters either. It looks like Novara may not make it out of the group phase either. Even though Eczacibasi will finish 3rd in their group unless they get their act together, they're still pretty likely to make it out of the group stage as the top 3rd ranked team. The only two teams that could take their spot would be Novara and Dresdner, and they would each need a win against one of the other two Turkish teams to advance. I see Eczacibasi making it through but they're going to get creamed in the round of 12 unless they figure out which of their 11 front row players to play. Is Kreklow definitely injured? She played as a sub in their last match so I was worried that Ozdemir had passed her on the depth chart. Can't like her chances for Rio if she's sitting behind the 3rd or 4th nest setter for a country that failed to qualify.

I am confused by this comment. Six groups (A thru F), top two in each advance to the round of 12. As I understand it there is no advance for the top 3rd place team?

One team of those 12 is selected to host the final four (it was Chemik last year) and is then replaced by the best placing 3rd team. It then goes from 12 to 6 to 3. Those three join The host in the final four.

Neslihan, Boskovic and Baladin Hande (a good young opposite from Turkey). They also have three OHs who get considerable time on either pin in Larson, Calderon and Ozsoy.

Vakifbank really struggled with ball control against PGE Atom Trefl Sopot. I haven't been able to watch them too much. Is that normal for them or just a bad day?

Sonja Newcombe, after finishing the season with Evergrande, has replaced Kanani in Lokomotiv Baku.

Eczacibasi beat Pomi 3-2. I believe this moved Ecza into second and pushed Chemik into 3rd due to sets. Larson really carried her team and got better as the match wore on. Eczacibasi probably used 12-13 players and constantly subbed struggling players. They can't seem to find a consistent lineup to use. Pomi's outsides could not pass and really made it easy for Eczacibasi.

Completely different team without her playing.

Its too bad Neriman or Calderon can't be more consistent as that second outside. I thought Hande did well, especially at the service line.

Impel's return on investment is terrible. At home, Hildebrand and Costagrande combine for 32 ERRORS. In one match. www.cev.lu/Competition-Area/MatchStatistics.aspx?ID=28081
