Kaylei is a 2020 libero/DS who plays for State champion Kamehameha High School as an outside. She also played outside for Manoa Beach club, formerly known as Imi Ike, where she played two years. She has great ball control, both passing and defense. Very steady player, especially under pressure.

Academically, USC is a better school than Hawaii. My bet is that if she can get a full ride to a high-quality school on the mainland, she takes it.
Also, I’m not sure what RAMS’s policy is regarding scholarshipping DSs, and what her plans are for recruiting DSs going forward.

Apparently they are quite independent and Kaylei always had aspirations to play for a "big program" (not that Hawaii is not a great vball program). Her mom played for HI back in the day too. (There was talk of Kaylei on the HI thread when her sister committed to Hawaii a few weeks/months ago).

The State of Hawai'i has no shortage of talented DS/Liberos, many who'll walk-on for the Wahine. K. Akana is a good get for any program though.

Her mom Joselyn, was the starting outside for the wahine when they went all the way to the national championship game against Stanford in ‘96. She played alongside Robyn Ah Mow and Anjelica Ljunqust, the NPOY. Kay’s sister Brae, who’s committed to play for UH, will likely be transitioning from middle to outside for college. She’s got all the makings of a great outside, which is exciting for us Wahine fans. I understand Kay loves UH volleyball but has always wanted to go to school off island and play for one of the top programs there. She has that opportunity at USC, and will be fun to watch. Although Hawaii is known for players with good ball control, Kay is the best of them in the state.

New coach is busy, great pickup from TStreet Good. Keep the Tstreet girls away from Seattle! And Palo Alto.

I'll say it was strange a few years ago when U-Dub came to Palo Alto and their entire starting lineup (save one) was from SoCal. And they had more players from Cali than Stanford, although admittedly at times we have been heavily SoCal oriented.

I am hoping Lanier makes it an even quadrennial in 2019.

She's a very nice player with a big arm. Her sister Jessica has a great all-around game and hits a heavy ball but she has just committed to play beach at UCLA

Lanier played 4 matches in the NCAA tournament last year and put up 20+ kills in all 4, and it didn't feel like they were giving her every ball. She easily could have carried a bigger load last year, but Abercrombie helped take a significant portion off.
