Wahine 17th in final AVCA poll

Hawaii came in at No. 17 in the final AVCA Coaches Top 25 released on Monday.
The Rainbow Wahine (23-6) were at No. 12 heading into the NCAA tournament, where they lost to then-top-ranked Minnesota in the second round. Hawaii, ranked seventh in 2015’s final poll, was preseason No. 6.
National champion Stanford (27-7) received all 64 first-place votes. National runner-up Texas (27-5) was second, followed by Minnesota (29-5) and Nebraska (31-3).

Hawaii senior opposite Nikki Taylor was named to VolleyballMag.com’s 12-member All-America first team on Thursday.
Taylor, the two-time Big West Player of the Year, earned her second consecutive AVCA All-America second-team honor last week. The Kaiser High graduate finished her Rainbow Wahine career at No. 12 all-time in kills (1,377).
Four other players with isle ties were selected, led by second-teamer Adora Anae (Kahuku), a junior hitter at Utah. Named honorable mention were: Carly Kan (Punahou), a senior hitter at Missouri; Kalei Mau (St. Francis), a senior hitter for Arizona; and Penina Snuka (Kahuku), a senior setter for Arizona.
