I'm happy with this hire. Not gonna be easy. A Macey-less team awaits her.
I wish her the best of luck!

I do not know Stevie at all. Is this viewed as a good hire? This is a very good hire for ASU; I'm sorry for the loss. She has a good connection with players. I'll be rooting for her success, especially if it means the PAC-12 becomes more competitive. This way they'll be beating up on each other more during the regular season.

An interesting tidbit, Stevie's last match at UW was the second-round loss to BYU in '07, just before Jason left for ASU.

I do not know Stevie at all. Is this viewed as a good hire? Only time will tell, but on the surface, it's much better than the Fullerton hire. She might be better than 99% of all D1 hires. Who knows? But to compare her to Fullerton is unfair to the Fullerton coaches. They did a marvelous job last year. I was at the games. The team improved a tremendous amount during the season. 5 starters left the team before they had a chance to coach them. They went to USC, Arizona, Pacific, Tennessee and a D2 school. Plus the Fullerton coach was hired late and it was not easy getting players. Fullerton will be better this year! (Last year 0-28)

I don't get this hire at all. Stevie coached my daughter in club. She remains one Of her favorite coaches - very firm direct yet still a real people person. IMO this makes a natural coach. Since her playing days she has really worked up the ranks of assistant coaching positions and been constantly part of successful programs. She is bright young ambitious with a great work ethic. I think Asu is lucky to get her.

Let's see how they do moving forward. Congrats to Stevie, she works hard and will do well.

I don't get this hire at all. The new coach may do very well, but if this was a revenue producing sport this hire (no head coaching experience) never would have happened. The previous hire of Jason Watson got them a proven head coach from a very good program. In 3 years at BYU his record was 74-18 (.804) and included being in the tournament each year.

Can we quit comparing volleyball to revenue producing sports? This is no different from any other form of business. The store managers at WalMart are going to have drastically different resumes than the store manager at your local corner grocery store. The CEO/owner (or whatever the position is called) of Applebee's is going to be different from the owner of a hole-in-the-wall in a small town. Mark Cuban won't be your community college's IT guy.
Let's look at things through the lens of what it is: college volleyball. With that in mind, there probably weren't many resumes better than Stevie's to come across the desk. She's 30, highly respected, and been at the best program in college volleyball the past ten years (I know she was only there a few years. Regardless, that's an experience only her and Salima have during that time). Of course there were DI head coaches with experience who applied. Perhaps the experience of a National Championship was something she could give that others couldn't.
In college volleyball context, this should be considered closer to a great hire than bad hire.

That remains to be seen. PAC12 can grind people up and spit them out. Hope she does well and she has some nice players to start with.

Sticking with basketball, the head coach of the reigning NBA champions has ONE YEAR of total coaching experience.

The previous hire of Jason Watson got them a proven head coach from a very good program. In 3 years at BYU his record was 74-18 (.804) and included being in the tournament each year. Over the past two offseasons of college basketball and college football (major conference only)... St. John's BasketballMarquette BasketballSouth Florida BasketballGeorgia FootballMaryland FootballBYU FootballPitt FootballKansas Football... all hired assistant coaches to take over. And that doesn't include schools who promoted a current assistant to head coach (which there were a lot of, even when the former head coach was fired). So in short, you're wrong. Revenue-producing sports in the biggest conferences hire assistant coaches all the time.
