I have a habit of calling my "safe deposit box" a "safety deposit box." If I told you I meant spare defensive safety would that make it a great joke?

Trump is to blame for most things, but I don't think this is one of them. The law actually goes back to 2005, so you can blame Bush. It's just that many states kept receiving exemptions. It was a classic "unfunded mandate" law (like Newt used to complain about except when it was the GOP doing the mandating). Congress decided that the states had to provide IDs that proved citizenship. Congress did not give the states any money for this.

What is a "spare DS"? This is probably another one of your bad jokes. And you call yourself a volleyball fan. Well, my first thought was "defensive specialist" but I told myself that couldn't possibly be because other than the size of the DS, that didn't make sense at all. Okay, chalk this one up as a bad joke.

Also, there seems to be a new option this year with a Passport card which functions as the passport itself but in a handy-dandy card format. Can also function as ID for North America travel because Trump made it so my California driver's license can't function as ID anymore at airports. Anyway, I don't remember the passport card being an option in the past but it's been over 10 years since I last applied for a passport. Passport card has been around for some time now. Got mine back in 2012 when I renewed my passport using the American Citizens Services office in Shanghai. Never tried to use it for US domestic flights, nor have I used it to cross into Mexico or Canada. Going to have a hoot of a time in 2022 when I renew my passport again. At stake is my Residence Permit and Work Permit will all expire when my passport expires and I can only renew it after I get my new passport. As for the driver's license, I think one of the issues was something about states giving illegal immigrants driver's license that got them banned from approved form of ID to fly.

As for the driver's license, I think one of the issues was something about states giving illegal immigrants driver's license that got them banned from approved form of ID to fly. It was really all about 9/11. After 9/11, they started with the "no-fly" list and requiring people to show ID. Then they realized that every state has their own rules for ID, and the Feds were unhappy about that. Mixed in with that was the push from the Republicans to make people show ID at the polls as part of their voter suppression campaign. (And no, that's not me being partisan. They have been pretty open about that being the real reason for many years now.) So they passed this "Real ID" act that would require all states to jump through certain hoops for compliant state IDs, one of which was to prove US citizenship. Several states rebelled for several reasons (no funding was provided, they didn't think driver's licenses should have anything to do with citizenship, etc.). So the act was delayed for years, and then extensions were made for many more years. All the extensions are finally running out in 2020. Remember, 15 years ago Bush was actually talking about easing restrictions on immigration. 9/11 hurt that, but still the whole "illegal immigrants OMG" scare didn't really turn into a huge deal until later. Yeah, it was always a low level right wing talking point (although remember it was Reagan who offered the big amnesty in 1986). But it didn't start to get pushed hard until the Tea Party got big. Most mainstream Republican leaders actually favor immigration and immigration reform, but the Tea Party wing is virulently against it. Trump's nomination (and election) on an anti-immigrant platform has basically handcuffed the Republican party into being anti-immigrant.

You need to put on your Tiger Mom hat and heckle her just for the fun of it.

You need to put on your Tiger Mom hat and heckle her just for the fun of it. Hard to heckle when I’m watching her on TV! But I’ll see her ref in person in 2 weeks, so thanks for the suggestion! She would go with me often when I reffed. One time during a time out, I felt a tug on my pants. I turned around and it was her, tearing up. “Mom the guy behind me keeps calling you an idiot.” I told her next time, turn around and say, “That’s my mom. Please don’t call her names.” Worked like a charm. The guy even bought her popcorn.

Tried posting a response in the Dream thread three times and always timed out on me. Then I got on a VPN and viola! Posted my strange dream.
Maybe its another example of the Great Firewall of China squashing one's dream?
