If the season ended today (and she probably should be anyway) Stacey Gordon. I know I'm overstating the obvious, but she is an amazing ALL AROUND PLAYER. She does it all, and is simply the best!

Yep.
Ogonna isn't carrying Stanford like I thought she might.

Ogonna isn't carrying Stanford like I thought she might. Stacy is a truly amazing player having a great year, but the second half of the season and the NCAA's have yet to be played. I wouldn't underestimate Oganna (60 kills in the 8 games against USC and UCLA last week and PAC 10 POW twice already).

Stacy Gordon.
Ogonna has not been the player that Stanford needs. She has exhibited zero leadership qualities. Her physical skills are undeniable, but as POY, I expect her to LEAD her team. Perhaps its the same letdown that Logan had after the 2000 games, but Ogonna is out of the running in my mind. It's PO-YEAR not PO-last half of the YEAR.

When is the National POY selection made? I seem to recall that it is right after the regional finals. If that's the case, I think helping your team advance to the Final Four has normally been a big plus to the credentials of the top POY candidates.
As for now, I agree that Gordon looks to be leading.

Stacy Gordon. Ogonna is out of the running in my mind. It's PO-YEAR not PO-last half of the YEAR. By the same token, it's also not PO-first half of the YEAR. I think SaltNPepper is correct in saying that what happens through Regionals is vitally important. (FWIW, if, indeed, the voting was today, my ballot would read Stacy Gordon.)(And for the record, I really have to take exception to your characterization of Oganna's leadership.)

Ogonna cannot make up the first half of her season, and even if she turns it on from here on out, I wouldn't choose her over someone that performed ALL year long for their team. Besides, I don't know that Stanford will be in the Elite Eight much less the Final Four. Ogonna will have to settle for being a 4-time AA .. not too shabby if you ask me. .. But not POY.

Gordon is a good choice. Martin from Minnesota is a possibility. Tomasevic is also going to challenge. Kamanao is a possibility. I agree with what has been said before. It will come down to who makes the Final Four.
POY is announced at the AA award banquet. Usually it will be the day between the semifinals and the championship match.

I don't really feel that Minnesota has a POY candidate. The only one really deserving of that honor would be Gentil and I can't believe that the AVCA would award POY to a libero (not that I agree, but I just don't see that happening). By the same token, I don't see Kamana'o winning that award this year either. Just based on the fact that I think there are better setters right now at established programs (Tortorello, Thompson, Moriarity, Main), I don't see it going to Kamana'o. I don't see Hawaii with a real candidate. As much as Tomasevic carries Washington, I don't believe she has been prolific enough to garner POY. Not to say I don't think she deserves it, but she will be lost in the numbers game that April Ross was lost in. Besides, I think Morrison would have legitimate claim as much as Tomasevic. For some reason, if Ohio State makes the Elite Eight and Gordon is still putting up numbers like she has, it would be difficult NOT to give her the award. I truly do believe she is the best player out there right now. (Pavan won't get it in her freshman season).

Right now, my vote would go to Mira Topic from Texas. I love, love, love her game. She's got great stats, she has every shot in the book, she does it all and for her sake, I'm glad Texas is doing well cause she's finally getting national recognition that she has deserved.
Gordon will probably get it and she will certainly deserve it, but I love Topic's game.

I was also going to mention Topic. Definitely my #2 choice behind Gordon.
HOWEVER, if Minnesota makes the FF and Texas and OSU do not, I could see this going to Gentil.
Tomasevic is probably #3 for me, although Thompson deserves a lot of the accolades for Udub's success.
COY? McLaughlin seems a lock if they make the FF.

Jerritt Elliott would get a lot of consideration for COY as well.

If the Wahine make the Final Four, I'd put my money on Dave Shoji. NO ONE thought they would be anywhere near a shot at the Final Four. Has any other team lost 6 starters (including the libero), among them two three-time AA's (one being National POY), another AA in Duggins ... and gotten to the Final Four the following year? Now that is some coaching! and a whole lotta luck!
