Format question... Looking at the bracket on NCAA.com, there is no mention that the team that advances through the losers bracket is required to beat the undefeated team twice. Is this true? I can see it being the case to supply a true single championship match for TBS. www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/beach-volleyball/nc

Does anyone know who will be televising the championships? Destination Volleyball pretty much answered my question.

1. The final is single elimination regardless of whether a team is undefeated coming into the final.
2. The quarters and semi's will be broadcast on Tru TV, the finals on TBS.

Why is this always played in Alabama, of all places? Was North Dakota unavailable?
Do they draw many fans there? It seems like a natural for So Cal, the hotbed of beach volleyball.

1. The final is single elimination regardless of whether a team is undefeated coming into the final. That's a shame, and not particularly fair IMO. If they want the true championship match, they should've gone with two separate 4-team double elimination brackets with the winners advancing to the single final. I think this is what softball and baseball do (but with a best of 3 final).

They used the Olympic Beach crossover format in past years which is similar to what you describe.
It has 2 undefeated teams playing 2 teams from losers bracket in the semi's (no winner bracket final).
The tournament becomes single-elim in semi's.
Not sure why they changed format this year.
Personally I would be fine with a single-elim tournament, like most other sports. No real reason for double-elim. Would also make it easy to add back pairs competition.

Yeah, I'm not sure why double-elimination is necessary for this. Teams already have to win across 5 flights so you don't need to protect against fluke wins as much.

And we're under way. Sadly, I don't see live scores anywhere. It appears they slightly staggered the starts. Pairs 3 & 5 went off first, then 1, 2 & 4.
Pair 3, Set 1: FSU 21, Stetson 16 Pair 5, Set 1: Stetson 21, FSU 16
