I'm not sure how national team coaching contracts work, but I know in the world of international soccer, most contracts end after a major cycle (i.e. World Cup). If his contract was expiring after Rio (which would make a lot of sense for USAV) and they want to lock him up, the timing is right. However, I don't know what other offers are out there for him. It's too late for any decent college job and I don't see him moving to take over a pro club or another NT. I think the team's success this quad is deserving of an extension. The World Championship goes a long, long way, as it should.
Gold in Rio will be a real challenge and could very well come down to beating Brazil on their home floor. It would be the greatest team accomplishment in USA Volleyball history for either the men or the women (and I adore that 2008 men's team), but we are at the point where that should be the goal, if not the expectation.

Karch moving Hooker off the team solidified my thoughts on Karch being a great coach. He was the smartest, hardest worker as a player we've ever seen. After driving his team to 2 indoor golds he goes outdoor and faces the best beach team of the era is Stoklos/Smith. No one dared serving the beast Stoklos. Karch is the only one to see that Stoklos can be error proned compared to Smith so he takes the brilliant risk of serving Stoklos. Result is complete overtaking of the beach world and another gold follows. As a coach he quickly soaked up the wealth of knowledge Hugh had shared. His unmatched competitive focus and intelligence has now moved the team to another level. What makes him brilliant in my book is he will do what no other will attempt. The average person see's some high flying attacker or a hard hitting beast on the beach. KARCH SEE'S WEAKNESS!!
So, some average egg heads on here don't see it because they can't see it. They are average. The best chance for success is with the brilliant guy. The guy who does see it. I was a major fan of the player. As a coach myself, I'm even more impressed with Karch as a coach.

Uhh everyone knew Sinjin was the best passer, Stoklos the best setter and Sinjin the best shot finder so was common sense to serve Stokie instead. Karch also thought the older Sinjin didn't deserve to be in the Olympics even though Sinjin with his new no name partner took Karch and Steffes to deuce twice in the semis, not the blowout that was 'expected.'

You realize that Kiraly wasn't hired as head coach "just because he was a great player" don't you? Or maybe you don't. Yep, there's no way that he would be the head coach of the women's national team if people in volleyball didn't throw rose petals at his feet. JLP

Let the incompetence continue, maybe the U.S basketball team will hire Micheal Jordan as the coach of the olympic team just because he was a great player. It's not like Herb Brooks in 'Miracle'. And that was a movie with dramatic license. He doesn't make the decision all by himself. There is plenty of input from others, including coaches, NT staff, and players. Yes, the final decision lays at his feet. But he was not the only one in the room to decide this was the direction to go with this group. Maybe the next group (asst coaches, CEO, core players) will feel differently and Destinee will be back for 2020.

Yeah Karch talked mad s.hit underhandedly about Sinjin, bad look all around.

Damn Sinjin should be coaching the WNT! All that crap he took from Stokie over the years, Hooker ain't nothing compared to that.
Hilarious looking at the situation for what it really is, Karch can't handle Hooker. Oh man can't make this s.hit up if tried.

It would really be nice if there were any actual volleyball matches to talk about. There are currently three different threads on Destinee/Karch on the first page. Maybe volleytalk could create a new category similar to the off the net or political ramblings for this and leave it in the garbage pile where it belongs.
We get it, you don't like Karch because Destinee is the greatest hitter since the caveman clubbed that brontosaurus over the head that was trampling on his families garden plot
We get it, you don't like Destinee because Karch wore that pink hat and brought meaning to dreary summer Saturday afternoons when we could watch beach on NBC
Whatever, if any of your opinions actually mattered, you would not be on volleytalk because you would actually be coaching the team or playing on it

Another term's the only way to guarantee Hooker won't have an opportunity to dominate for USA again and win a Gold in Tokyo, because if she did that'd make the "lost" or "stolen" quad look even worse for Karch. Blocking and banning all her peak years is the smart play. I'm grateful Tom made it before Karch dynasty, I'd feel even worse if he were 10 years older and she were robbed of the Athens and Beijing quads instead. Gotta look at the positive side. Exactly, I don't understand how anyone can think that what the egomaniac is doing is right. The reality is that you the fans are the people who are getting cheated. The greatest athlete to ever play women's volleyball and one of the greatest athletes male or female will not get the opprortunity to compete against the worlds best on the big stage in her prime. She's the most amazing and entertaining volleyball players to watch. But you Karch Kiraly worshippers can continue to be entertained by how well the little 5'2 liberos can dig the ball. So, in the last week, Destinee has gone from being a really good volleyball player to "the best volleyball player in the United States" to "the greatest athlete ever to play women's volleyball". By next week she will be "the greatest athlete in the history of the universe!". By next month, she will leaping tall buildings in a single bound and destroying all of the Earth's enemies! Kind of reminds me of the old saying...the older I get, the better I used to be.
