Having known her for many years, i would take issue with several of your statements, but I'll leave it as this: she isn't mmune to criticism simply because she's good at volleyball. That is all fair and trust me - I am not saying she should be immune. Its just that the scale of microscope sometimes seems a little off in grand scheme was my point. Having said that, the interesting thing about beach volleyball is that the vball stars are so accessible such that many on this board know her personally so there is that angle - all I have been exposed to is her public persona (not knowing her personally) so that is also very fair. Fair enough.

Agree this will be a very strong team. I was disappointed to see Isabelle retire, but this team could be something special. Also the new team may turn into the new Stonebarger/MoreThey're going to end up doing a Playboy shoot? Its almost an invitation to indulge in European stereotyping. Perhaps not Playboy, but that is a team with a lot of cheesecake photos in their future

Kerri won $163,000 this year playing volleyball. I'd keep playing too. She could find another partner, and even win half that amount and have an incredibly successful year.

Just Everyone's thoughts on Kerris decision not to retire.... Is it just love of the game? Sponsor Driven/money? Does anyone think that Karchs record is in the back of her mind? And how realistic a shot does she have with possibly having to pick up a young unproven player that will take some time to gel with...Also if she was going after Karchs record, she has left quite a few tourneys on the table in the last couple of years that they would have easily won if she had played in. Or a combination of all these? I think it has to be primarily driven by money - last year according to BVBInfo, she made $160k in tournaments. This plus endorsements revs which are likely higher than we would all think is a pretty good living. Why stop? She can still play at high level, loves the game and grind and she can make decent money. Lord knows Casey is not going to be making much. I do think sheh gets pulled back mentally by wanting to be a more present mother...

I always think pro athletes who are still winning should keep playing. At 45 all ex-athletes wish they could still play. Plus Kerri has some milestones coming up.

Not Kerri and April but Anouk Vergé-Dépré announced this morning that she is leaving Forrer and partnering with Joana Heidrich Wow! This could be a very very interesting partnership, perhaps the tallest combined on tour now that Kerri/April have split. Anouk Vergé-Dépré is 6'1 and Joana Heidrich 6'3 - both prior full time blockers. My guess is that Vergé-Dépré is moving to full time defender - if she can make this transition and both continue to evolve and mature, this team is going to make some serious noise. Both are 24 yrs young - big if on the switch to defense for Vergé-Dépré though. Perhaps they are going to switch block ala Pedro/Evandro which would also be an interesting twist. They are both super athletic for their size...big international news that will likely get buried on this thread - thanks for sharing, Buck. Away from their volleyball skill - this is definitely the hottest team ever assembled... Hotter than Morgan Beck and Jess Gysin? Lol

Hey new here 🤘 Been reading for years but the uncertainty of next year just seems to much fun not to chime in.
Regarding Kerri: I can't imagine her being on a top 5 team in the world without Sarah Hughes or April Ross. This leads me to believe she is looking for a one year partnership and will reevalutate her game and look at April and Sarah for a run at Tokyo. I think the top of the list thus far would include Brittany hochevar, Emily day, and summer Ross because of international points and experience. If I had to choose between Day and Ross id choose Ross because Emily's sideout game can be very shaky. Neither would be defensive teams of the year but I think Summer and Kerri could sideout to a few podium finishes but see a lot of 5ths and 9ths for them.
If Brittany can be the Britt that won Manhattan then I think her and Kerri would make for a successful partnership. I love Britt's fire and competitiveness so I'm hoping this is what happens. She is one of the hardest workers on tour and would love to see her go out with a bang.
So Lane Carico... It seems as if she is looking to retire but do you think she would turn down a call from Kerri? Lane can play both sides and has only been getting better every year. I could actually see this as a potential 2020 team, very slim potential but never say never.
Also what about the Salgado sister that married Jeremy Casabeer? Is she looking to play or stay at home with the new kiddo? Would be fun to see a surprise pick like that.
Speaking of brasilians! There is bound to be some fun shakeups with Talita starting a family and Barbara already finding a new partner. If Larissa doesn't retire I would like to see her pick up 6'4" Ana Patricia and for Agatha to pick up Eduarda. Maybe see Juliana play defense behind Lilli??? Idk it's all up in the air at this point.

Glad you chimed in - this is good stuff. When reading your text about potential Kerri partnerships - I could not help but think how dull the choices are beyond April and Sarah. All good players but just none that strike me as dynamic. I do like Britt but am a little concerned she could hold up siding out consistently. Her nice run of the tourneys this year - she has not gotten the serves. I did not hear about Barbara/Agatha splitting. What is that about? Reigning world champs and silver medalists decide to part ways?

Also, what about Nicole Branagh? She is returning to the AVP next season. Just had her second child. How about her & Kerri for a year? Depending on what Nicole has left in her tank, it's almost like Kerri owes her a shot to find out what that is after dumping her in 2012. If April cannot play next season on the AVP, and they want to make the Toyko run together again, then it would make sense that Kerri just play stateside for the year. Anyone interested in the 2020 Olympics may not be too excited to be playing with her if that is the case.

As you say if Kerri only wants to play stateside, Nicole may be a good partner Its an interesting comparison of where Brazil versus the US is in the options that the Brazilians have in their partner shakeup versus Kerri considering players like Whitney, Nicole, and Summer. Also Kerri isnt contending in Tokyo. No way, no how. Go back and watch some matches from her heyday with Misty and see just how far she has fallen. A lot of people talk about Kerri like she has only fallen off a little, but that's not true. She is still a top player, but she is far from what she was and is on a downward slide.

I agree that I don't know if I see Kerri really contending for a medal in Tokyo with anyone. I'd imagine she'd want to play international for the pay check next year so I don't know about Nicole. It seems at this point Kerri thinks she'd be able to medal in Tokyo so after next year she will probably re-evaluate her game and how a run would affect her family and will go from there.
This would definitely make it dicey for players who want to start training with a partner to prepare for Tokyo so maybe a player like Summer or Emily would have to deny a deal with Kerri. Maybe Kerri picks up a player like Geena Urango or Betsi Metter for one year as well. They are good up and coming players that I really don't see making a strong run at Tokyo yet so why not play with Kerri for a year?
Exciting that Larissa is starting a family but was hoping to see her play more. Really opens the door for a new Top Brasilian team with her and Talita out of the picture. They just won the most recent brasilian tour stop last week so I'm hoping that maybe they will delay their plans for a year.

On the flip side of this whole partnership thing....Who do you all see April contending for a medal in 2020 with (If it's not Kerri)? She will be coming off having a child and will be 38 years old herself....Who is the best partner & choice for her for Toyko? If it happens to be her & Kerri (which it won't be) that would be by far the oldest team there, wouldn't it? Does she try to split up Sarah & Kelly? Just read an article with Kerri & April that said that Sarah & Kelly are our future Olympians. Kerri said they are extremely good, Head & shoulders above the rest as she put it. and she is so excited to see some great collegiate players starting to emerge. April said they are the 2nd best team on tour behind her & Kerri by far. That's why this discussion is so fun for me because I have no idea haha There is so much talent in Brasil and Europe that I don't see Kelly and Sarah winning gold in Tokyo so if I were Sarah I'd strongly consider playing with Kerri the minute USC sand season is over. If Kerri can manage her play while also moving back the left side this could be a contending team. Sarah is already very good but with her youth has so much more room to grow. I think Kerri takes her to that next level. If I'm April at 38 I might think of Transitioning back to blocker.. Shes already not a quick defender although is probably the best in the world at transition. But who would she pick up then to defend behind her? *crickets* lol I would actually really enjoy her and Kelly together. Would love to see them both ripping jumpserves at opponents and being a sideout dream. Where Sarah is very polished Kelly has a huge ceiling to improve. She could evolve into an amazing blocker or maybe they become a really good split blocking team. I would also love to see these two teams battling in the AVP finals week after week.

(Assuming April is out) I also agree April has some real potential as a blocker or splitting. Her and Kelly bombing jump serves and siding out all day would be awesome to see I hate that Larissa is going to take time off. With her and April out, it looks like a dominant year for Laura/Kira. Could be the first team to get to 10 wins.
