Each hood ornament is apparently valuable in providing certain boosts for your vehicle. Just like IRL.

Mad Max
When I bought this game for $4.99, I thought I would play just a little bit and stop altogether. Boy, was I wrong. Once you understand the gameplay and get into a rhythm, it's kind of addictive, much like Dying Light. Dying Light is a much more exciting game, for sure. But damn, it is a lot of fun! Among the last four games I played, Horizon Zero Dawn has the best story and the gameplay is incredible. Dying Light has a stupid story but it's functional enough and the gameplay is great. Rise of the Tomb Raider was good, but I just got bored and honestly, it just couldn't hold my attention as much as Dying Light. And, Mad Max's story is stupid and trope-y, but the gameplay is good. Playing this game has inspired me to watch Mad Max and Road Warrior, the original films. But when am I going to do that?

The opening chase scene of the first movie. (Not great YouTube video quality.)
It's our first look at Max and the world he comes from. The cops are chasing a guy who is raving. The radio tells us that he "broke custody" and stole a "pursuit special". The regular cops can't handle him. But we keep cutting to views of Max, calmly preparing. Finally we get a good look at his car, and where the other cars said "Pursuit" on the back, his says "Interceptor". He's clearly the badass of the force.
He plays chicken with the crazy guy, and the crazy guy turns away first. Now as Max is chasing him, he starts to cry. He knows it's all over, because Max is more determined than he is.
There is no explanation of the background here, but the scene itself makes it clear that society is falling apart. The cops are still trying, but lawlessness is spreading and the roads have become battlezones.
It's an interesting way to start a movie.

I've seen Road Warrior but it was in the 1980s in college. I've forgotten almost all of it except some guy's fingers get sliced off by some flying blade (?) in a road skirmish. I've never seen Mad Max.

Found at a local library a DVD box set title Mad Max: High Octane Collection that has all the Mad Max movies -- Mad Max, The Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and Mad Max Fury Road. So, this is what I'll be watching during lunch today.

Mad Max
Watched 45 minutes of The Road Warrior movie. I love the fact that the video game incorporated so many elements from the movie:
- the Australian cattle dog - shotgun - cans of dog food - high value of gasoline - cartoonish and elaborate costumes worn by the bad guys - the obvious road battles - binoculars - makeshift bases - desert wasteland environment - looting of dead bodies for valuable stuff

Mad Max
I realized a few days ago how large the map is. In the beginning, as I was going around doing stuff, I was thinking, "Man, there's a lot to do here!" and then I zoomed out of the map and noticed there were gray-shaded areas, which meant they were yet to be "discovered." As the days went by and I kept doing a variety of things, I noticed the gray-shaded areas had names for the various regions and I had some side quests that took me into the gray-shaded areas. Then, it dawned on me how huge in scale this game was because if the gray-shaded areas had the same things the color-shaded areas had, there's no way I could finish this game in a month. There's just so much to do!

Mad Max
Several glitches in the game, none of which makes the game unplayable or unenjoyable. On 6-7 occasions, enemy vehicles and enemy bandits suddenly disappeared during the middle of a fight. And no, it wasn't because I killed them. I would be surrounded by six bandits and I'd strike one bandit and then, shazam!, all gone! I looked this up on the web and this seems to be a common issue in this game. It doesn't happen all the time. All these were open world activities so nothing was affected.

The bandits have a strong union, and they take their contractual lunch break seriously.

Something I found randomly that I kind of liked. I’m not really sure what it is beyond a dude in an astronaut outfit.
