If Penn State isn't atop B1G at end of season it's time for ole Russ to retire. The only team I see giving them fits may be Wisconsin. YELLOWCARD. For showing lack of respect for the B1G! There will be a few teams and situations that can hang a L on PSU next year. That being said I feel comfortable on saying there will be separation between them and a log jam of teams in the 2-7 positions Mich,MSU,Wisc,Neb,Maryland,Purdue and maybe OSU. Illinois, if...... you know.

I agree there will be a logjam in 2-7, but I don't think Maryland will quite be ready to be in it. I'd put Iowa in there first.
And you leave Minnesota out of it too.

Thanks, all. For the record, I have to thank Rich Kern for most of those incoming recruits. I did a lot of searching (many of the names can be found through twitter), but I ended up setting up an account with RK because I knew I was missing some players. So, shout out to RK.

This is a prime example of current and/or future players having a rethink result when you see a coaching change that is unexpected.
"I love the school BUT I also expected to play for her/him....now I'm not so sure"
It IS part of the landscape of college athletics and one that is too be expected.
I suspected we will see this in numerous programs this year tbd.

I really think Wisconsin will be 1-2 this year. Their freshman class is so good and even though they lost Carlini, their core returning group could be enough to carry then throughout the season. Ohio State could fall anywhere from 3-10, which I feel is nothing new for the Buckeyes. Losing Taylor Sanbothe means losing 90% of the offense (sad, but true.. probably an exaggerated percentage, but she was their rock). Maybe losing a player so dependable and go to gives the offense a chance to become more spread, more players to step up? Guess we will see. I do love me some Taylor Hughes though, IMO she's extremely underrated. I'll give a way too early guess and say the B1G champion this year has 3-4 conference losses, IMO. I don't think Wisco will not finish top two. They lose Carlini and Nelson. They were captains they kept the team together. Losing an all american setter and go to a freshman is not easy even though she was ranked the highest setter in her class. Last year they went to five setters with few teams and I think they'll be upset few times.

No fan will ever doubt the importance of Carlini and Nelson but they helped build a culture that will still be there even with their absence. Wisconsin's back row is all back, which has been the biggest part of Wisconsin's identity... it will be hard for a team to stop Wisconsin if their defense and passing is feeding an already-talented setter.

And no offense to Ro, we upgrade at the RS position. Rettke or Duello should produce more offense over time and add a better block for Rettke for sure.

Wisconsin's back row is all back, which has been the biggest part of Wisconsin's identity... Wisconsin's Identity : 1000 NCAA women's volleyball educated fans were asked this question and they unanimously came up with a different answer than you just did.? If you are including Carlini's 2nd on the teams 320 digs (next was Hagerty at 276) uh......a massive part of your backcourt isn't there anymore. Strike 2.

But I will.

Thats some admirable coolaid that Kelly's is trying to sell to the team and one I love but the fact is the true IDENTITY of Wisconsin Volleyball for the past 4 years primarily centered around 1 player. If we combine our 2 points it still comes back to her as the point person in that "mantra". The stats don't lie either.

Well if that's the direction we're going then this person was the face of college volleyball the last 4 years, not just Wisconsin. Yes, I understand fans will follow that up with "no National Championships," "beaten by younger setters," blah blah but I didn't bring this up. Let me know if you want me to provide the interviews where commentators said she was the face of college volleyball, not just Wisconsin fans praising Cheesehead Jesus.
