And looked like Hoye has cast on her left hand/wrist. :-(

Some other positives tonight other than the blocking and how freaking amazing Olsen is: - Buzzerio had some nice back row rips. Like utilizing her in lieu of Lou (ha!). Provides some more consistent ball handling yet maintains the offensive threat from back row. - Far less serving errors (Sheehan and Orr, in particular...their errors-to-aces ratios leave something to be desired) - Orr connected with O'Neill and Coyle better tonight and was also bit more selective in calling her own offensive number Important road trip next weekend. Michigan will be out to get us back and we just haven't matched up well with MSU these past few years. Our serve receive needs to be spot on against Sparty because they just serve lights out and we cannot afford to be out of system a ton against that height. Heck, no one can afford to be out of system a lot against MSU. They are really big and physical at the net.

I think it says a lot about the job Bond and company are doing that I was glad the Badgers got the sweep in Iowa City and I don't necessarily see it as a major advantage that there is no rematch in Madison. The road to the tournament is a hard one for Iowa, especially with that tough loss at home to the Illini, but they are a team that would look a lot better in any league other than the gauntlets of the B1G or Pac 12 this year (and the B1G is a gauntlet partly due to their continued success).

So we've got the Michigans up in their territory this week. To be able to come out of their 1-1 would be incredible for us. We've got two more "must-win matches" in Indiana & Maryland and then we need to pick up two more... literally anywhere else. To snag one this week would make the final four weeks a little less stressful.
We have our first crack against Michigan on Friday, we beat them in four at home, at a time when they were really struggling to get things going. Since then they beat fellow lower middle of the pack squad Ohio St. in Columbus sooo... maybe they've got things going for them now? I don't really know. Who knows with Michigan this season, we'll see how they decide to show up in their house.
Michigan St. has been pretty fantastic, winning all three of their match-ups against Minny/Wisconsin so stealing a win there would be insanity. They play Nebraska the night before so maybe we hope for an exhausting five setter and Cathy George put all her eggs in Friday's basket, didn't scout Iowa, and then rested her senior starters on Saturday. One can dream.
Either way, an 0-2 trip wouldn't be surprising, a 1-1 trip would be ideal.

Looking forward to fridays matchup with the Hawkeyes! Lerg is battling a leg injury that she suffered sometime before the match in Iowa City or during the match that she is still recovering from which has hurt our defense tremendously. Welsh has looked better since the last matchup though. Katherine Mahlke got extra swings against OSU and used them to her advantage, wonder if we will see more than one rotation of her this weekend. I agree who knows which Michigan team will show up but I hope they are looking forward to a “revenge match” on their home court!

I've really enjoyed watching Iowa play this year and root for them every night they are not facing Michigan. Orr and Sheehan have been great and point to an even brighter future for the program. Taylor Louis is a beast and along with Janota seem to bring experienced leadership to the team.
I'll save the match analysis for the game thread but suffice to say I hope Iowa goes 1-1 this weekend, with the win coming in East Lansing!

Congratulations to senior middle blocker, Jess Janota, who reached her 1,000th career kill Saturday again Northwestern!
This sits her somewhere around 18th in the record book. She also sits at 4th in all career attack percentage.
Annika Olsen is also the only player in the Top 20 for career digs to only have three seasons of play under her belt, everyone else got there in four seasons.

Alright we’ve got one big opportunity open for us this week to capitalize on. We have Indiana on Friday, which theoretically should be a fairly easy W to place on the board, and then we have Purdue on Sunday.
Last year we shocked a seeded Purdue at home and beat them in faith, like Illinois, they’re unlikely to be shocked this year. They’re going to be prepared, and after a loss to Maryland they’re going to be out for blood. After Nebraska on Friday they’re likely going to be thinking they NEED this win.
A 1-1 weekend would seem likely, a 2-0 weekend would be huge for us. We need about 4 more W’s to secure a tournament berth, locking 2 up this weekend would sit us in a prime spot for the rest of conference play.

Holy beatdown damn. I missed the whole match but a 3-0 sweep of Indiana 25-13, 25-14, 25-16 pretty much says it all.
Our middles combined for 17 kills, ZERO ERRORS on 21 swings to hit .810. Olsen had 20 digs in 3 sets to average 6.67 digs per set (I love that kid). The strange thing is both our outsides seemed to struggle and we still put a smack down.
So that’s great, it was definitely a very, very necessary W, we need as many of those as we can get. We can be well rested for a scouting day tomorrow and then hopefully we can take a seeded Purdue out at home again!

Indiana really struggled in pretty much every possible aspect. And yes, our middles were just lighting it up both offensively and defensively. O'Neill just crushed some quicks tonight. Really good to see that connection strengthening with Orr. And Orr was clearly not attacking on her own nearly as frequently, which I think is actually ok...keep that weapon more for "special occasions!" Everyone got in and contributed in some way. Hoye came in for Sheehan, who didn't have a great night. Three booming kills for her. Reuter collected a couple as well. Love the energy of both of them! Other notes: - In Bond's "Chalk Talk" before the game, he was asked how many more wins he thinks we need to make the NCAAs. He seemed pretty sure that three would do it. - Taylin Alm wasn't present. Not sure why. - The "Fab 4" 2019 recruits were there: Grunkemeyer, Hansen, Rients and Tubbs. Love that height coming our way down the road! GO HAWKS! Let's pick up another W on Sunday.

Not disagreeing, but I like sure things... and three more W’s would definitely make it a sure thing!

Great clarification. Yes, he said three before tonight's match so would now be two out of the remaining seven. But I'm with you: let's solidify this with at least three more, please!

On Iowa Vball Twitter they are celebrating a Senior player each day of this week as it leads up to the Senior Night this Saturday against Ohio State. Yesterday was Taylin Alm, who is a redshirt Junior. Figured earlier on this season when she was included in pics with the other Seniors that she would not be back next year. However, today they are celebrating Kasey Reuter. She also is a redshirt Junior but didn't see that one coming about her not coming back next year! I have so much respect for each of these two.
Anyway, passing along because if that's correct about Reuter, that should now be 5 schollies available for next year. Hmmmm...
Let's pick up a W this Sat night against those Buckeyes. And heck, let's shoot for the moon and give PSU a battle tomorrow night, too! GO HAWKS!

Anyway, here’s some highlights from signing day! So my assumption is we have these four on schollie and Hine will be signing as a walk-on in the spring?
