Thanks for the post! I’ll start one up soon, just waited for a couple ?’s to settle themselves out before starting a thread. This is a very helpful get for Iowa as we struggled only having one setter in the gym last season. This will provide much needed depth, and the size can’t hurt either! Completely agree that Baby Buzz is a great get for Iowa for many reasons, one of which is definitely the second setter aspect you describe here. The other, to me, is the RS aspect. With Alm and Reuter graduating this year, this left us mighty thin for 2018 at RS as well (with only Coyle). Bond was definitely utilizing Alm this past season in some situations over Coyle to put up a bigger block so this ensures we have similar options going forward (nothing like replacing 6' 5" with 6' 5" ) This carries even into 2019 when Coyle will be gone and Grunkemeyer comes onboard...will be nice to have that competition in the gym! Congratulations and welcome to Hawkeye Nation, Courtney!! Can't wait to see you with your sis in black and gold!!

My kid has played against Courtney for years. She is a really big block to get around on the RS that can be very frustrating for a hitter. She has a nice high reach when hitting that you just can't coach and will be able to produce some nice angles for Iowa. She also has done a great job running an offense for T-street when she had the chance to set in both in a 5-1 and 6-2. I think she is at Coast now?? My guess is she will have nice success for Iowa and I would say a very good get! Also her work ethic and personality from an outsider seems great. Wish her the best! Awesome! Like hawkfan said above, Bond was definitely using Alm as a blocking sub last season, even when Coyle was producing successfully. So I can see Bond taking a vested interest in Courtney and possibly even grooming her for running a 5-2 (not all the time, just when Orr is getting abused in the front). It would also be really nice to be able to take all the freshmen middles and just worry about rebuilding depth there, instead of being forced to start looking at moving one to a pin because of right side departures (+Sheehan).

And as referenced in the transfer thread, looks like OH Griere Hughes from Arizona State to Iowa!! Will be a Soph. 325 kills last year as a Frosh, which is 2nd on team. Looks like nice addition to our OH crew to help fill the Sheehan void. Looks like she was in same club program as incoming Frosh MB Amiya Jones. Welcome, Griere!! Think this takes us to 16 on roster next year, which has been the number Bond has typically had so we may be set, barring something unforeseen. Shaping up nicely for a good 2018!!

Hughes finished club career with Munciana, and I think Jones came to circle after Hughes left. Both are good gets, can see Griere stepping into Sheehan’s spot. I think Jones can be very good, but she may need a redshirt year

Unless one is significantly behind the rest.
