Joslyn Boyer, L, 1st Alliance 16 Silver Boyer joins fellow '19's Emma Grunkemeyer, Blythe Rients, Grace Tubbs, and Kyndra Hansen 2019 will be a very interesting year for the Hawkeyes. Setter Brie Orr will be a junior (with no other setter commits currently in the pipeline, assuming Paige Franck, fellow junior will provide backup). Libero position will be open (depending on who wins it out next season). Hannah Clayton, Amiya Jones, and Sarah Wing will have a one-year headstart on incoming middles to establish themselves before Rients and Tubbs joins them. My assumption is Grunkemeyer moves to opposite as we lose Coyle & Alm in 2018. Hansen has a real chance of beating out Buzzerio or Sheehan for a starting spot. I'm most interested in seeing what Emma Grunkemeyer does this upcoming club season at Nebraska Elite, whether she stays in the middle or starts looking to the future and moves to opposite now. Great summary and I foresee the same for Grunkemeyer (moving to the right side at Iowa), given the personnel needs and timing. Hansen is a keeper for sure. She balances power with smart, off-speed, well-placed shots better than most at her age. And keep in mind that although Rients is a "middle by trade," she was named a Soph 79 by PVB.com for her performance as an OH last year. Not saying she would necessarily compete with Buzz, Sheehan and Hansen for a starting spot at OH in 2019, but sure could be a very viable option with much physicality there after that, especially since it could be kinda crowded with tall talent in the middle for a few years. All will be very exciting to watch unfold! Great to hear about Rientz! This club season I'll try to keep a better track of our recruits and what they're doing with their clubs.

Great to hear about Rientz! This club season I'll try to keep a better track of our recruits and what they're doing with their clubs. I will, too. Rients definitely played middle in club this past year for Northern Lights. The Soph 79 honor as an OH was for her high school season. Just good to know of her versatility and ability to contribute in many different ways. MB position in 2018 will be so interesting. Talk about throwing three Frosh into the fire! Clayton impressed the heck outta me in her club team's run to a championship a few months back. Incredibly quick, agile, consistent and focused. I just don't know much about Wing or Jones but we'll sure find out quick! But, let's enjoy 2017 first, right? Anyone able to attend the Black & Gold Scrimmage this Saturday?

Iowa TV schedule: @michigan 10/27 5pm CT vs Penn St. 11/8 8pm CT hawkeyesports.com/news/2017/8/17/2-iowa-volleyball-matches-to-air-on-btn.aspxThose are two tough matches, the last two seasons we've matched much better against Michigan than Michigan St. I say we go all in on the Michigan match during the rounds up north to steal a win up there. Beating a Michigan would be one of probably two key upsets to earn a spot in the tourney this season. The PSU match is in the middle of an Indiana/Purdue/Penn St./Ohio St. home match streak. Indiana is obviously a must win (but shouldn't be a problem), we need a win against the other three to stay in the picture (last year we stole one against Purdue at home). Beat Purdue AND OSU, plus a win at the Michigans and we're tourney bound.

Anyone go to the Black & Gold scrimmage today? If so, would love to hear observations.

I'm so incredibly excited to see Orr run this offense, having Keala run our system for two seasons was a blessing, I can't wait to see what Orr is able to accomplish with four seasons!

Here's hoping Orr connects with her hitters early and often. Can't wait to see what Orr is able to accomplish THIS season! Believing in this team. If the Hawkeyes stay healthy (see NU, MI and WI injury/illness report), it will be an entertaining, competitive season with many moving parts. Lots of lineup possibilities.
Make some waves at Long Beach State this weekend IOWA. Go HAWKS!

So excited for this 2017 Hawk train to get moving down the track! I am very interested in many things but one of them is to see who our 2nd starting OH will be (along with Louis). Bond has a lot of talent on the left to figure out how to best maximize on the court. Great "problem" to have! Let's also keep O'Neill and Janota healthy, right? Fabulous duo in the middle but really no one else to back them up.
Looks like we can listen to all matches and can watch the Sat night match against host LBSU:
From Iowa official site: Listen/Follow Along Live audio is available for all three matches on Hawkeye All-Access at hawkeyesports.com. The match against Long Beach State will be live streamed on BigWest.TV. A link can be found at hawkeyesports.com. Live stats for each contest can be found on the volleyball schedule page at hawkeyesports.com.
GO HAWKS!!

Iowa wins first set 25-22. Hmmm...closer than one would think but probably working out kinks a bit. Audio is not working for me but from box scores on GameTracker, looks like Buzzerio is playing 6 rotations with Louis as 2nd OH with her. Looks like Reuter is 2nd MB along with Janota?? No O'Neill? Surprises me. Kelly and Johnston in DS roles. Just how I am interpreting things, anyway. GO HAWKS!
