Haven’t had the chance to watch it yet, but Eczacibasi beat Vakifbank 3-0 (again). Eczacibasi remains in first place in the Turkish league.

Sonja Newcombe and DH are struggling a lot in Brazil....Newcombe even lost her starting job for a few games, although she got it back and recovered with a somewhat decent performance.... The good thing is that Minas is playing well even though the American duo is struggling.... Minas doesnt have anyone to contend for Hooker's spot, but in my opinion, Priscila Moreira (Pri Daroit), the player they benched to start Sonja, is just playing much better than her....she had 22 on over 50% hitting the game newcombe was benched....

I don`t know why they signed Newcombe, Pri Daroit and Rosamaria are way stronger than her, and if these 2 are not playing well you can only expect Newcombe to do even worse. Hooker got blocked 7 times against Praia Clube..that`s not good. It is amazing to watch Carol Gataz at age of 36 playing like she`s still 23.

I am thinking that maybe this was an old transfer that just took to long to go through and Minas was left with no choice.....and maybe the team didnt think that Pri Daroit would renew her game as she did...truth be told, as of right now, Newcombe looks like a kid when compared to Daroit. Yes Gataz looks like like she was able to turn out the clock there....a lot of spring in her step....the duo of her with Mara Leão is perhaps one of the best in Superliga

The problem with Carlini is always that you are expecting too much from her too soon. She is playing in a very difficult high level league in a high level team but not one of the best or more complete as a squad. Setters in pro VB need time and maturity. Carlini in my opinion is still higher level setter than Hancock at all aspects (apart of scoring aces that makes Hancock to have a career in pro European VB no matter what but it would be very difficult to see her replacing one day Carli Lloyd in the NT. Carlini is still the best option and maybe Hunter and some other names that will rise to fame within next years. But to be honest when I ve watched Carli in her first match with Barueri in Brazil I was amazed. She is a true leader of a team and is not only about skills but also confidence and mentality. Time will tell but I insist, Carlini needs more time and experience. When I've heard that she would start as her first contract in Italy I was sure that would be really tough for her. Because with lack of experience and such competition beside you you are losing confidence and that's a problem if happens too early. Don't forget that Dijkema (the setter of Dutch national team stayed in Italy one year in the best team possible and then she was replaced by Wolosz of Poland, stayed without a team for 6 months and now went back in Italy in a lower level team. Sorry for the big comment..

Judith Pieterson took some time off to finish studies and now she signed with Modena. Brakocevic did the same thing and now signed in Romenia. Ana Bjelica, and so many others. Dijkema is playing for Firenze and they hired Giovanni Caprara as head coach, and he is one of the best and most respected coaches in Europe.

For Brakosevic was never given an explanation why she left Moscow and Romania is quite beyond her career and skills. Why she has chosen to go there is something not explained publicly also. Ana Bjelica signed with Red Star in Belgrade and she didn't take any time off. She couldn't find a team and signed with Red Star an open contract in case that she would find another team in mid season. It's obvious for players at such level like Bjelica, Brakosevic and Dijkema is not about finding any team but a team which is able : a) to pay the amount you demand, b) not to turn your career downwards, c) to find the proper coach and role in a squad, d) to be as much as possible in the media in order to keep your name afloat in the market. Of course you are rejecting offers that are not fitting your criteria. Of course for players from NCAA that are trying to find their first contract is another story since they are not yet tested in professional volleyball, so they are existing various strategies how you will approach your future career. Others will decide to dive in deep waters, others are preferring to start in an easier league in order to gain experience and credits, others are accepting the first offer that comes on the table. And because is professional volleyball and everything will end up on money issues, because each player is an expensive investment for each club, competition is high to match your career as a player with a good team. And of course agents is another important factor.

And because is professional volleyball and everything will end up on money issues, because each player is an expensive investment for each club, competition is high to match your career as a player with a good team. And of course agents is another important factor. Bjelica did take time off after the European Championship. She did not sign with any team because she did not want to ( and as you said there`s many many reasons why a player choose not to play and you right as the club/coach and of course $$ has a say on that). She got a offer to play for Shanghai with Kim Yeon, but later she declined, as I mentioned before, she wanted time off. Of course Bjelica was not hoping Fenerbache or Conegliano would sign her, but she could easily have signed with a mid-level team in Italy/Turkey or even stayed in Brazil as there were rumors Rio/Sesc had interest in her. But money was not a problem, because Shanghai would certainly pay more than any mid-level team in Italy/Brazil/Turkey would pay. She declined for personal reasons. And there`s nothing wrong playing for a mid-level team in Italy/Turkey. At the end of the day there`s only 4 big teams in Italy and Turkey, and if every play out there would play only in these TOP 4 teams....well they would all be out of a job LOL. And let`s say Djikema did not sign with any club because she only wanted to play for a big club, why did she sign with Firenze now?? That makes no sense. And she only signed with the Serbian team recently, I don`t think she even got the chance to play for them, and she only signed with them in order to get back in shape for the Summer as she hopes to make the roster for the World Championship. Same reason Loyd signed with Barueri, she wants to get back in shape for the World Championship, if there were no WCH she probably would take more time to recovery and not start playing this soon. She`s certainly not making "any money" playing there, but the chance to play is more important than money for her right now as she`s still recovering. And the reason Bjelica actually accepted the offer from Volero, is because they are not doing so well in the Swiss League and I think Calderon got injured, and they were desperate to find someone and offered Bjelica a good amount $$$, not to mention Terzic was their coach last season and he helped in convincing her to sign with them as Volero`s president called Bjelica himself, and they have 3 other Serbian players in the team. And there`s rumors Volero might be hosting the CL final 4. Legnano in Italy was also interested in her after Camila Mingard left. Nobody knows what happened with Brakocevic, but some people were saying she might have been pregnant ( and had a miscarriage). Ok, we r off topic. This is about Americans and not Serbians overseas....LOL

Just to add regarding where Americans choose to play and how they make choices lets not forget that when Vansant went to Volero she sat the bench the whole season and never recovered her confidence coming back to the NT team and is now out of pro volleyball. BTW it is my understanding that the host for CL comes from the final six? If not then only 3 advance to the final four. Certainly Volero hosting would mean that one team would have a easy path to the finals and the real championship might be the semi-finals. Although this year based upon ECZ's collapse last year the best Euro team might be in the CEV finals.

Volero may be interested in hosting, but I don't see them putting much money or effort into it. I understand that the President/Owner intends to wind down the club either through a sale or a voluntary demotion in the Swiss league at the end of this season.

In fact the host does not play the Final 6, and that`s why there`s a "Final 6".....6 teams ( 3 match ups) = 3 winners....these 3 winners plus the "Host" in the final 4. The host will be announced soon ( even tough CEV already knows who`s hosting). That`s why there`s rumors and some people are saying it could be Volero, but there`s rumors that Galatasary is the one hosting. I personally believe it will be Fenerbache..... again all these are rumors and we will learn soon who`s the host.

Nobody knows what happened with Brakocevic, but some people were saying she might have been pregnant ( and had a miscarriage). Ok, we r off topic. This is about Americans and not Serbians overseas....LOL About Bjelica I'm sending you the statistics' link of the Serbian League (5 matches, 15 sets, 58 kills, 8 blocks, 7 aces and still 11th on the League's index) ossrb-web.dataproject.com/Statistics.aspx?ID=22&PID=0. Yes Volero is always paying good but is most probably Volero's last season since his president already announced that is buying Le Cannet in France and Volero will remain a team for young talents. The main reason for his decision is that he wants a great team in a more competitive league. So I doubt that Bjelica chose Volero because of the good prospect. Most probably the other way around. Terzic is not getting involved with the new coach of Volero... For Dijkema and Lloyd is another story because setters are not finding easily a new team or to be more accurate: a new coach. There is always a combination of factors for changing a setter and even if it's not playing well it's always a risk to change her in the middle of the season. Also for Laura and Carli to stay another 3-4 months out of competitive volley could reflect on their performance in WGP and WCH in the summer. So since we were in January there were not so many options on the table. And Laura was without a team, but Carli made the wrong choice last summer. And yes let's stop here..people will get furious..
