Bet Sara was wishing she had Kerri by her side in that one. really like this new format where pool play means something. Also very eager to see how the new Dutch men do

I say let the young guns take their lumps. That is how you learn and grow as a team not by listening to people say how great you are.

I agree that this new pool format is an improvement. More on the line with every match. Nice win for Fendrick/Carico.

Sorry, I've missed something. What is new in the pool format? Sort of double elim in pool play. Win two pool play matches and get a first round bye. Lose two, and you are out. Win the first and lose the second, you finish second in pool. Lose the first and win the second, finish third in pool.

Imagine a mini 4 team double elimination bracket. Top seed plays bottom seed, two middle seeds play. Then, the winners play each other to determine 1st and 2nd place in the pool and the losers play to determine 3rd and 4th place in the pool. The 1st place team (win, win) gets a first round bye. 2nd place team (win, lose) and 3rd place team (lose, win) also get in. The 4th place team (lose, lose) is eliminated.

I see the breakup of Ross/Walsh gives Brazil and Canada the top 6 teams in the World give or take. A couple country domination's in women's Beach Volleyball and USA is clearly not 1 of them.

Hmm. Right now, Germany might have the best depth on the tour. I think they had four or five different teams win a World Tour event in 2016. Correction: I meant four different teams had podium finishes, not wins. Still impressive, to me anyway.

Thanks for the explanation of the modified pool play format. When I read it the first time, I thought that only two teams make it out of pool play (the first and second place finishers), and did not realize that the winners of the third place match (the winner of the match between the teams who lost their first match) also advance!!! Thanks, everyone!

Thanks, everyone! I would love to see a further tweak so the winner of Match 1 plays the loser of Match 2 and vice versa, with the two teams that win the final matches being the only ones to advance. Three teams from a four team pool advancing is just too many

Yes, thanks for the explanation. Kind of weird system. Now I also saw the article linked from BVBinfo's home page.
