Looks like Claes and Hughes are the last hope for US, guess it's not too surprising. I'm really glad they stayed together.

So at least a 5th? Beating a solid Brazilian pair in Brazil? Pretty good for their first tourney as professionals!

They narrowly beat the 9 seed, which is very good win, but lets see if they are competitive against Agatha/Duda.

You got proved wrong. Proved wrong? By a lucky draw 5th? Fendrick/Sweat occasionally got a 5th, Summer/Day did even better. You know what Kerri Walsh called a 5th last year? Her worst finish of the year

I don't expect Claes?Hughes to beat Agatha/Duda (one of the top five pairs in the world). Although Agatha/Duda haven't exactly set this tournament on fire, what with struggling to beat a good but nowhere near great Swiss team in the last round. At any rate, even if they go down, I really like what I saw from Claes/Hughes - They got slaughtered 21-10 in the first game against a good Brazilian team (and nowhere else in the world are you going to face a more hostile crowd than playing a Brazilian team in Brazil, trust me), and then fought back to take the match. A very good start from a pair that still has a lot to learn about playing on the World Tour.

Cuz Kerri's gonna make Hughes beat Agatha? Why not? Agatha is an excellent player but she's not a 26 year old Misty May. Kerri/Hughes, with some training time behind them, probably beat Agatha/Duda 2-4 times out of 10. Despite the long gestation period US fans are used to, young players thrown in the deep end often fluorish, as in the case of Duda herself, who is 3 years younger than Hughes, I believe. I dont think a win here is out of the realm for Claes/Hughes either, who the Brazilians probably haven't seen play very much, but with Kerri, Hughes would make at least a couple finals this year.

Pavan going from losing in round 2 of the AVP qualifier to taking down the world no. 1 and making the semis at least. (Kelly/Sara's loss not looking so bad now I guess) Big believer in Pavan and eager to see if they can keep this up
