You were hating. You got proved wrong. Proved wrong? By a lucky draw 5th? Fendrick/Sweat occasionally got a 5th, Summer/Day did even better. You know what Kerri Walsh called a 5th last year? Her worst finish of the year Are you Kerri's Mom? Claes/Hughes have been teammates since high school. They achieved more than any pair so far in college beach vball, and set a standard that will be very hard to overcome. They clearly love and support each other. They outperformed the veteran pairs (including an Olympian). Give them time to grow and be a fan. No need to be an @$$%*!*.

(but I tend to not be a "win or its nothing" type of guy).

Wait they achieved more than any other team in the five year history of college beach volleyball? Ohmigod!!! They love and support each other!!! Even better, I bet hey have great slumber parties! And you wonder why people don't take women's sports seriously. A fifth is a good first outing for a team like this, except if you consider that only Sara's poor decision making has her on a team like this.

One would think that an adult would understand something about life related to winning versus friendship, but apparently you haven't grown up yet.

People should be happy about Claes/Hughes, and with the unquestioned certainty surrounding Kerri and possibly even April, they are already, right now, arguably the best US team, probably even Internationally. The most impressive thing is they are both just dipping their toes in and haven't even got their feet wet. I don't see how anyone cannot be excited with the prospect of these 2 22 year olds moving forward.

(btw,I was comparing their results at their ages to that of Misty and Kerry on bvbinfo....) at the end of the day, partner selection is a very different animal than most jobs. you will be training, traveling, etc. with that person for an extended period of time. Personally, I can see why a player, just out of college at 22, wouldn't want to spend that much time with the media circus, insane expectations, etc, with a 39 year old mom of 3. Especially one in a lawsuit against the owner of one of the major professional tours in the US.

Hughes playing with Claes - and not Walsh - is the smart play in respect to the Rio tournament. Walsh hasn't played a match in seven months, and she and Hughes would have had time for literally one practice session together before their first match. Hard to see them doing any better in Rio. Hughes has plenty of time to sort out her options post-Rio.

Are Claes/Hughes funded by USAV? I might have misunderstood, but I believe the talk here was USAV funds the top 4 USA teams on both sides? Not sure what's happening with that now with all the partner changes.

April and Kerri aren't going away and will be options if it doesn't work out with Claes. Also don't see why Hughes would want to get in the middle of the Walsh/Armato/Sun/Hanneman/AVP/NVL sh** show right now. Stick with your partner and let stuff sort out. Good first tournament.
