Zaun is nothing if not ambitious always looking to the future. This partnership definitely shows that Also shows me that he has smarts, grabbing arguably the best player to never have a stud alongside him. Taylor Crabb was supposed to play with Lorenz at the Hague but for whatever reason no go but it shows that other players know Lorenz is legit. Just watch.

Yeah, looks like Zaun and Priddy ranked 1 and 2 in hitting percentage among defenders in NYC. Interesting also that Zaun ranked high in total digs, but not so much on a per game basis. Will be fascinating to see how these guys do with new partners. avp.com/stats/mens-new-york-city-open-2017/BTW, why can't the AVP publish season totals for these stats? They are only showing 2016 totals. It would also be nice if they could archive game-by-game stats on their site somewhere. Then we could compile some opponent-adjusted numbers. I agree on the need for opponent adjusted numbers, as it stands Reid's numbers are very deceptive. He took very few swings - half the number that Taylor and Eric did for example, and he took them against inferior competition. In the two events he has played, despite playing very weak competition, his numbers are lower than Billy Allen, Nick, and Zaun to name a few. Its hard to take anything from tournaments Reid is playing with a guy who is more or less a top qualifier player, and who puts up no block, so hopefully we can get a better read on him playing with Ed. LOL, you'd think helping top qualifier Maddison to his highest career finish would reflect well on Priddy. And I'd say if we are already comparing him to the top defenders on tour after two events, that's a pretty good start to his beach career. I agree, let's see how he does against tougher competition. I'm guessing he'll see a lot more serves playing with Ed.

( I don't know how Santos did it at 42).

Yes he got a 5th with Madison, but it was in a half field event, they got spanked twice by a mid-level team (Casebeer/Mayer) and the best team they beat was the Bomgrens. Thats the trouble with playing with Madison, especially with Madison blocking, there is almost no way to really distinguish yourself. Good teams are always going to beat them because Madison is on that team With Ricardo, he played three 30 minute matches and one hard one in the quali. Not exactly an old school loser's bracket deathmarch

You are right, until some real wins tallied, these moves are just not meaningful.

surprised a little by lorenz making this move. Unless he is just going for the future with age being relative. Any time he has played with Ty they have good results. From the video I have watched it looked like Ty was ballin this year. I can't argue with Zaun's results but the guy just doesn't do it for me. Seems kind of like a kook. Think Maddison and Ty should be fun to watch as they will bring some fire to the AVP. When I watch Maddison I don't understand why he doesn't get more blocks. He is way up there.

Check Ty/Lorenz last match in NYC, they got crushed. Pretty sure it was Loomis who cracked as his hitting percentage was like 0%, seriously.

As much as I love Loomis' game, he loves to show off a bit much versus taking the boring shot; hammer one straight down versus jumbo. Probably got blocked by Slick repeatedly, lost in 2, 21-10 spanking in second.

Its a good point, and sitting here with knees swelling after a moderate run (that a younger person might call a slow jog) - and me younger than Ricardo - it makes more sense than I thought at first. I think the 16 team bracket really distorts what high finishes mean. I know its time and money and blah blah, but for the men, 32 teams would be great. For the women, I would love to see 8 team events ala the first few years of AVP women, there is a whole lot of chaff on the women's side.

Long term, clearly Zaun is on his way up and Ty going the other direction. Zaun is also a really strong setter, so definitely a perk for his partner. I think they should be pretty interesting, since Ed really was playing pretty well overall and the Zaun/Ed team seemed to just win some points you wouldn't think they would win. Pressure is on Marty I would say to show he can be at that 5th place level consistently.

Pressure is definitely on lorenz. And I think ed played really well. He sided out pretty against the good teams.

I think 5th as a floor is pretty optimistic. The two teams seeded to finish 5th are Trevor/Sean and Billy/Stafford. Zaun/Lorenz shoud definitely get a 5th or even a 3rd if the draw breaks right, but right now I don't see how you put them over either of those teams on a consistent basis. I'd love to see it though, would be great to get some new blood
