I think 5th as a floor is pretty optimistic. The two teams seeded to finish 5th are Trevor/Sean and Billy/Stafford. Zaun/Lorenz shoud definitely get a 5th or even a 3rd if the draw breaks right, but right now I don't see how you put them over either of those teams on a consistent basis. I'd love to see it though, would be great to get some new blood I'd put them roughly even with both those teams, slightly below but more than capable of beating. Right now, I'd put them closer to the teams behind them, than to Trevor/Sean and Billy/Stafford. I've seen enough of Lorenz to know he is good, but they haven't played a point together yet. I'll judge after 2 tournaments minimum. If seeds hold, they will get to play Billy/Stafford in the contender's bracket. 8 vs. 5.

I meant more along the lines of Zaun with two 5th's in a row.. Whether they play like a better team or not, anything less than a 5th is going to look like it is on Marty. To me, they are a going to be a higher risk/reward team. They may drop a game here or there they probably shouldn't, but also have the ability to beat some of the other big guys (like Zauns been doing).
I can't see Ed/Priddy getting any 5th's without some help or an easy draw. I hope they prove me wrong though.

Looks like it should be an interesting 1st round for the new team. Projects to be: Zaun/Marty vs ed/Priddy (8v9). Winner moves onto most likely Gibb/Crabb...where they would be underdogs.
Assuming a loss, if seeds hold, they would play Bomgren brothers and then would most likely play loser of Allen/Slick vs Doherty/Hyden (4 seed).
Interesting 1st round match up of former partners.
Question on people that have been seeing Zaun in 1st few tournaments more than I. 1) Ed/Zaun have had a nice run and have done fairly well in 3 set matches winning a few very close ones with 1 expection of Allen/Slick. IF they had gone out earlier in 3 sets matches, is Zaun still as highly thought of if he is going out in 9th/13th?? 2) for those that watch the NVL last year. Zaun/Palm and De Sol/Piotr were basically dominating the tour with Del Sol/Piotr being the dominant of the 2 teams. Zaun has made the transition to AVP and is doing well. Piotr think made 1st AVP event and gone out in Q's in others. Think Piotr has a chance to be mainstay on AVP and if so, what do you think his ceiling is...assuming he stays on AVP. Dave Palm- I thought he was really solid watching him/Zaun play together. Any word on what he is doing? How well he might do on AVP in light of what Zaun is doing? Del Sol- Pesonally, I thought Del Sol was a touch better than Zaun on NVL last year. Would be interesting to see how far he could go against higher competition with a good blocker. 3) Interesting to see what guys like Piotr/Del Sol/Palm do...stay on NVL and be top dogs or try AVP. Piotr seems to have tried to get into AVP tournaments through qualifications but will be real interesting to see here shortly if he keeps trying AVP or returns to NVL when NVL resumes. Del Sol/Piotr just played together at Aspen Motherlode and beat Kolinski and ?? (someone else). Oddly, Del Sol/Kolinski had played a smaller Colorado sand tournament a few weeks earlier.

Del Sol seems to be sticking to NVL though seeing him in person at Laguna (where he & Mesko were hammered by Lorenz/Evans) he's not a big guy like Zaun. Del Sol looks 6'0" TOPS while Eric is closer to 6'4" which obviously allows him to do more at the net. I'd definitely take Zaun over Del Sol any day of the week.
