With Slick/Allen getting beat by Miles/Billy at the Norceca, wonder if next months tournament that Slick is playing with Zaun will be a tryout for next season?

I would say it already was before the loss. Also, how lame is it that Miles/Billy win NORCECAs but can't man up to play in AVPs. Yes, it's weak and absurdly dimwitted.

Not sure how Billy and Miles and stake thier beach future on the NVL, Amateur tournaments and Norceca's. I would think they only path to building a brand or some noterighty as a team would be the AVP. It's sort of the like that age old question if a tree fall in the forest ... if you win a Norceca and there's no media exposure (other than this board) does it matter?

At the end of the day, both of those guys held too tightly to their "beliefs" that signing with the AVP was a death sentence. Seeing as their fellow US team was an AVP stalwart, this would clearly make no sense to any logical human being. Billy was definitely manipulated by Casey Jennings and Casey's forced rejection of AVP ball by his wife. What Billy and Miles need to understand is that this is a one horse town and refusing to sign and play zero attention tournaments is wasting prime athletic years on tourneys that carry the cache of a local bar championship. If you are any kind of competitor you should want to play the best in the world, period.

Evans wasnt exactly committed to the AVP before the contract was in place so his separation shouldnt really be that surprising. As for Kolinske, not every 30 year old dreams of being a beach volleyball mainstay and makibg sonewhere arounf 10k - 15k a year not even being able to support their family.
On a side note, those 2 are some of the nicest guys you could meet, and i would be shocked if they were playing volleyball for any type of media exposure or anythibg like that.

If I'm not mistaken Billy moved out to Cali from Wisconsin expressly to play beach volleyball. Again, if you play a sport, you should want to play it on the highest level if you consider yourself any kind of competitor. Would Jake Gibb slum it down a notch? Hell no, that guy is a competitor and wouldn't accept beating second-rate teams (though clearly not Stafford/Allen) for "titles". What about Zaun? Guy up and moved from the east coast and lives in a freaking VAN to play volleyball on the #1 domestic tour, not the now DOA NVL but the A-freaking-V-P. Oh and by the way, Zaun also played in Pottstown & Seaside so clearly you can play in outside events not named NVL. Now if you can tell me that both of those guys have full time jobs off the court that pay them handsomely, there is no other reason for not attempting to compete on the AVP tour other than fear of not having the same success they have in those local bar championships.

Athletes pursue the highest level to make a career in their sport. No AVP mainstay is making a career. Gibb makes a living because hes a world class player. The 5th best team in the avp made like 12k each. If zaun never becomes a world class player and commits to the avp he will still be living in his truck when hes 30 and probably finishibg on a top 5 AVP team. Thats all fine and dandy, but it sure aint for everybody.

Yet both of them are clearly committed to playing all these side tournaments, again, real athletes play at the top level regardless of pay because they clearly could have played all the So Cal tourneys. Oh, that's right, Miles didn't qualify for Huntington and took his ball and went back to the sand court behind the local bar whereas his partner for that tournament went on to qualify for several AVPs and is one of the up and coming players on tour, the real tour for guys who want to test their skills against the very best.

People play different tours, different events, maybe even with different partners, for a myriad of reasons, get over it. Whats it matter? It is their choice..

Yo JB, I have strong opinions and takes unlike "people can choose what they want to do" garbage, like no duh. Kolinske & Evans are wannabe beach volleyball players until they commit to play the best in the world wherever and whenever, not cherry picking tournaments, thinking the NVL has any future whatsoever. The reason I get on those two is that they both clearly have talent and could do so much more with it. How anyone squanders athletic potential is beyond me aside from fear of losing something you never had.

Lol simmer down there buddy. Maybe next time you should add something with some sort of substance in a comment where you criticize someone for posting something completely devoid of it
