There are a ridiculous number of Americans playing in Italy this season, so I think it deserves its own thread. Matches are generally on Sundays at 11 AM Eastern, and watchable via subscription through LVF.TV (50 euro/year annual pass). I believe there is also an archive of old matches available too. Each week, Italian TV will pick up one match for that Saturday at 12:30 Eastern. ESPN has been broadcasting this live via WatchESPN. This Saturday, Scandicci (Carlini) will play Casalmaggiore (Pavan) in that match. Americans or NCAA players: Pomi Casalmaggiore (Pavan) Savino Del Bene Scandicci (Carlini) Imoco Conegliano (Bricio, Easy, Hill) Igor Gorgonzola Novara (Gibbemeyer) Saguella Monza (Dixon, Hancock) SAB Volley Legnano (Drews, Newcombe, Ogoms) Il Bisonte Firenze (H. Tapp, Santana) Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio (Barstch, Wilhite) Lardini Fillottrano (Mitchem) Foppapedretti Bergamo (Acosta) Note the team names are Sponsors + City. Sponsors can change from year to year so often easier just to use the city. Schedule First half schedule here. Deviations from the standard start time (Sunday morning) are noted in the rightmost column. StandingsUpdated standings, along with the current week's results, can be found at this link. If you click on the set scores it'll also link to the match boxscore Novara and Conegliano are also participating in the Champions League. Champions League Schedule Conegliano won its first match in the play-in round in an easy sweep against the Hungarian champions. Hill led all scorers with 17 points, with 5 aces as well as a ridiculous 11-0-12 hitting line. Hodge had 9 kills hitting over .400. Bricio is still on national team duty. Novara has an auto-entry into pool play and won't start playing for a while yet. All Champions League matches are streamed live on Laola1.tv. They are usually on a weekday (Tuesday-Thursday), with start times depending on location. Home matches in Italy are almost always at 2:30 Eastern. Busto Arsizio and Casalmaggiore are taking part in the CEV Cup (2nd highest level ofEuropean competition) with matches starting in December. CEV Cup Schedule Most matches are not streamed and will not be competitive until the later rounds anyways.

Week 1 ResultsConegliano 3 - Casalmaggiore 0Conegliano gets a much easier than expected road sweep over a Casalmaggiore team struggling without Brayelin Martinez and Lo Bianco. Easy was top-scorer with 13 kills hitting .500, and Hill chipped in 7 kills and 3 aces. Pavan was held under .200. Novara 3 - Busto Arsizio 2Epic match with much longer rallies than you would expect. Bartsch played an amazing first four sets but ran out of the gas in the 5th. She scored 27 points but was outdone by 30 from Egonu (including 2 key blocks on Bartsch late). Gibby had a very good day with 11 kills on 19 swings and 3 blocks. Wilhite saw spot sub duty but did not impact. Novara is absolutely loaded and are the league favorites out of the gate alongside Conegliano, so Busto should be very encouraged. Scandicci 3 - Modena 0Carlini's debut was sizzling, as her team hit .500 in a monster sweep (75-40 total score). This is pretty impressive as Modena has too many solid players to be scrubs (Barun, Ferretti, Heyrman, Leonardi) even if Montano is way past her prime. Scandicci is strong in the middle and right and will have a good season if their lefts (L. Bosetti, Bianchini, Samadova) can hold up. Firenze 3 - Monza 1Sorokaite and Tirozzi just rolled over Monza's defense. Hannah Tapp had a poor day offensively (4 k, .133) but chipped in 3 blocks. Dixon was a bright spot for Monza with 11-1-16 hitting, while Hancock was not active on the roster due to a slight ankle injury. From the lineup, it looks like they are playing Havelkova as a receiving opposite with Ortolani outside - seems odd. Filottrano 3 - Pesaro 1Mitchem is playing as a 6-rotation, receiving outside and struggled passing but pulled in 13 k on .300 hitting and, most importantly, got the win. It looks like the offense will be really dependent on her and Tomsia, so she will get ample chances to prove herself over the season. Pesaro looks like they will be highly dependent on their two Belgians Van Hecke and Aelbrecht and will need others to step up to avoid relegation. Legnano 3 - Bergamo 0This was a total beatdown (75-48) as Legnano played really clean volleyball and blocked Bergamo off the court (16 times). Newcombe had 6 kills hitting over .300 and a very good passing day with 4 blocks, and Ogoms chipped in a couple of blocks and 4/6 hitting. Drews did not enter the match as Italian opposite Camilla Mingardi went 17-2-24 a couple of days after her 20th birthday. Drews may have a bigger fight for court time this year than she expected. Bergamo is missing SYlla and their big gun is a slumping Malagurski - I don't expect big things from them this year.

Well Pavan is not American so there is that. Unless you mean North America. I thought we traded Puerto Rico and a territory to be named later for Canada and they are now the 51st state? Maybe not because Northern Lights would have started a thread in Political forum. She did play at Nebraska though, so close enough.

Dang Pavan is still playing indoors? Are there other players currently that are competing at an elite level for pro beach and indoor?

Yes, except for the starting sentence of "There are a ridiculous number of Americans playing in Italy this season, so I think it deserves its own thread" which is the part I read. :)

"their big gun is a slumping Malagurski"
I would not call her a slump - she was TOP 5 regular season score in Turkey and Italy past 2 seasons. And she had some good games with Serbia this summer, her and Bjelica kept Serbia going when Boskovic was out. I`m sure she will be one of the best OPP this season again especially when Malinov comes back.
I was impressed with Bartsch, let`s see if she can keep up this level, but she showed again she can`t play under pressure.
Hill keeps going downhill, I think her hitting % was around or below 30%, I think Bricio will take her spot eventually. Pavan was really bad, but I think the last time she played a indoor game was back in January when she was playing in China.
Italy is GREAT but I think Turkey is still stronger. Today Vakifbank got a relative close 3-0 win against Halkbank, a team that will have to fight hard to reach the playoffs. But Vakifbank would simply crush mostly all Italian Teams if they played with the exception for maybe 3 teams or so.

You can't compare domestic Turkish league results with the results of Turkish teams playing in European competitions. Because of foreigner limitations (and their habit of over-signing), their teams for domestic competitions are much weaker and (perhaps more importantly) much, much more inflexible.

Vakifbank plays with the same line-up in the Turkish League and Champions League. Rasic, Zhu, Sloetjes plus Turkish Libero, Naz, Akman and Godze. Sometimes they would replace Godze with Hill, and now that is Robinson`s job.
But the other teams YEAH, their line up for Champions League is not the same for the Turkish League.
But Conegliano started doing what Turkish teams does (and this is a bad idea) as they are loaded with International Players. Hill and Hodge ( USA) Bricio ( Mexico) Woloz ( Poland) Robin De Kruijf ( NED) Athina Papafotiou ( Greece) Fabris (Croatia)
They won`t have the same line-up for Champions League and Italian League.

Pavan is currently the only player in the world playing at the highest level of beach and playing professionally indoor according to her website.

Yep, Pavan is just transitioning off Beach and hasn't played indoor since playing in China.
