So what did he do/not do for this "ban"? He's technically an illegal immigrant. The moment he left U.S. soil meant he could not legally return until a predetermined number of years have passed - the number varies, but is apparently 10 years in his case. This isn't a secret, BTW - there's a Gofundme page set up for him to raise money for an immigration attorney.

Only two men’s team in the main draw— Patterson/Slick and Doherty/Allen.

Dont get Taylor not playing. How many chances is he going to get at a four star with a field this weak.

Maybe play with Ryan. There are some good teams here (Latvia, Guto, etc.) but this is a weak event for a four star and Taylor could experiment with someone, gain more experience (he is in his second real FIVB year). With Ryan and a good draw a top 5 finish would be likely and with a few breaks a podium finish would have been possible.

Does it make sense for Ryan to play 1 even with Taylor, vs. get started with Billy? If Taylor/Ryan did play poorly, which they very likely would, I can't imagine Taylor ever giving Ryan a real opportunity when he moved on from Jake.

If they won, or even made the podium, maybe Taylor picks up Ryan long term. Likewise if Jake gets injured, and he is 74 years old, then Ryan becomes Taylor's first call. If it goes poorly, its one event.

If Ryan and Billy are really playing together this season, they should stick with it unless one of them is injured or otherwise unavailable.

Ryan and Taylor could win and Ryan and Billy have no chance to win. That means Ryan should play with Taylor even if its only one event. Others may have a different perspective though
