I would not want my job security based upon my perception of what a 14 year old is going to be like in 4 years. I agree. I think the NCCA should do something about all the early offers. Make girls wait until the end of Sophomore year before committing. Giving an offer to a Freshman and hoping that they will be something special in 4 years is such a gamble. Or they come in hurt from overuse injuries while going thru a growth spurt. HS, then two club seasons , possibly beach/sand - way too much for some kids.

Kevin and Sealy both, at least to name a couple, have tried to rally people against early commitments. They can’t abstain themselves without a rule, but they, among others, have seen the problem. Doubtful we will see anything in the near future though.

I am not certain how you tell a high school athlete they cannot say that they intend to play at a certain school. I am also not certain it is a good idea to prohibit all contact between a college coach and a young athlete. Camps would become a big problem. Other sports, playing by the same rules as volleyball do not seem to have the same problem with early commitments. I am also surprised by how few volleyball players de-commit, even after a coaching change. Anecdotally, it seems that more new coaches shed committed players than athletes withdrawing a commitment after a coaching change.

ILLINOIS has 2 recruits named Gatorade POY in their state. Taylor Kuper Class of 2018 - Kansas & Ellie Holzman Class of 2019 Louisiana. Isn't this her 2nd in a row and she is only a Junior. She has to be a Top 5 recruit in her class. I think Kuper could be a back row specialist like Albright of Nebraska. Serve, pass, play defense and hit out of the back row!
Congrats Coach Tamas on these great recruits. Go ILLINI!

With what I know of Taylor Kuper (one of Illinois' two 2018 recruits), I foresee a player much in the mold of recent Wisconsin graduate Kelli Bates. Bates was one of my favorite players to watch in the B1G. All 4 years as a Badger, Kelli was very steady in the back row defensively, but at 5'11" (like Kuper) was also able to hold her own as an OH when she was needed due to injury of other OHs or for other issues.

Kuper is 5'9. I mean I would love to see her as a DS and be used as an option for a backrow attack. I'm not sure if she'll ever see OH tie though. Her and OBrien will compete for that LIB spot. I think I like Morgan at bro right now.

Having a DS able to hit from back right/opposite while a six rotation player hits from middle back would be a terrific option, particularly if she is hitting over Jordyn while Jordyn is front right.

I know it's only January but I can't for next season to start.

IIRC, she hit out of the back row a few times last season, so she may develop into a six-rotation player at some point.
I can't see a junior transfer coming to Illinois to sit on the bench and play backup to Cooney. I think Prince is the backup on the right side.
