How’s the student section/atmosphere at games? I’m looking forward to attending games this fall. It's small in terms of numbers, but goofy stupid and fun. The band plays a nice chirp every time the other team has a service error, and as soon as they finish the whole student section says in unison. "You let the whole team down."

How’s the student section/atmosphere at games? I’m looking forward to attending games this fall. Couple of positives: One, you get in free. Two, at Cliff Keen you literally sit on the floor behind the benches right next to the players. The Friday/Saturday night B1G matches are best. There is a good hearted heckling contingent that sits behind the opponents bench. At Crisler, the students tend to be a little more spread out,but there are more of them. Hopefully you can connect with some volleyball fans on campus. There is a dedicated core that Im sure will welcome you. Go Blue!

Report from A2:
The Rosens introduced what has to be the deepest Michigan team in years at the annual Maize/Blue scrimmage today. Six new freshmen plus a transfer have been added to the 2018 lineup that suddenly has multiple options at every position. Several of the new faces stood out, but probably none more than New Bremen, Ohio's "Sultan of Swat" Paige Jones. More on her in a bit.
Set 1 saw what I think Mark Rosen views as his best 8 on the floor in Maize: Welsh (S); Skjodt/Jones (OH); Crocker/Shannon (MB); Wetterstrom (OPP); Lerg (L) and DiSannto (DS). On the Blue team, Erin O'Leary shared setting duties with Maddy Abbott. Bair/Glavinic (MB); Sadilek/Malinowski (OH); Brooks (OPP); Hamacher (L) and Smith (DS) saw most of the play time although everyone got in. Maize easily took S1 25-13. Mac spread the ball around and got scoring from all corners.
Set 2 saw just one jersey switch, Shannon and Bair at MB. I think that shows what the coaches think of Bair, who played very solid up front both on both offense and defense. Sets 3 and 4 were more evenly split talent wise.
Highlights:
- Paige Jones is the real deal. She played 6-ro with Skjodt in S1 and looks to be the complete player. Good passer from the back row, solid jump serve, has all of the shots, lean and quick. She reminds me of a taller version of Caroline Knop. In S3 she took over at the end, flying all over the court and scoring in crunch time. I'm trying not to get too excited over a freshman in an intrasquad scrimmage but this kid can play. - None of the freshmen seemed overwhelmed or out of place, and all showed flashes of promise. Kayla Bair is competing for time at MB; Lizzie Sadilek looked good at OPP until she rolled her ankle and had to sit out; Abbey Malinowski showed she can score from anywhere; Grace Persson took a bit to get going but connected well with Mac later in the match. They all seem ready to step in when needed. - It looks like starting setter is Mac's to lose. It's nice having her come in healthy this season. O'Leary is ready and waiting in the wings. - Wetterstrom had a compression wrap on her right leg and seemed a bit limited on her mobility, but she could be the answer to our OPP worries. - The littles remain a concern. Lerg is healthy and playing like Lerg which is a positive. And Hamacher looked great at libero for the Blue squad, we are going to need her veteran presence in the back row. - Crocker and Shannon seemed like an improved duo at MB. Crocker was scoring consistently and Shannon is our team's best blocker. - Carly Skjodt is already playing in beast mode, she looks poised to have a huge year. - Leisa Rosen arguing a bit with the down ref during an intrasquad scrimmage was a hoot. The fire forever burns.
I think this is a better team than last season, with competition at every spot on the floor. I'm hopeful that this squad can pull off a couple of upsets during B1G play and compete for a tournament seed. Looking forward to next weekend - Go Blue!

Great review!! Beyond excited to follow this team this season. Hope Wetterstrom, Sadilek & Rocafort heal fast & get back to 100% soon! Wetterstrom saw plenty of action today and I would guess will be option 1 at OPP. Sadilek rolled her ankle and hopefully has just a minor sprain. Bummer to do that in your first pre-season match. Kudos to CKW who spent time on the bench with her to help lift her spirits. Rocky was the only one who was not in uniform. But this team has options when injury strikes.

Volleyball is a team sport, you have a hole in your line-up and any BIG Coach is going to exploit that. This year Michigan is not really soft anywhere, plus we have the benefit of depth and competition within. Going to enjoy the season, looking forward to what the Rosen's turn this group into come November.

Bair has really been impressing me lately. FWIW. It was nice to finally get to see her play today, she looks really solid. You can tell the coaches already think highly of her, putting her in with the A team in Set 2. Looks to have all the tools to be successful, excited to watch her develop!

Welcome Jacque! I think this is Michigan's first 2021 commit. Cannot believe I missed this. That's a great get for Michigan. As of right now, she's considered one of the top 5-7 middles in that class. It's a very talented middle class overall too. Well done.

I had them #17 on my VT Top 25 ballot. I did not rank teams considering schedules though, only on their potential compared to others. I think they have a lot of nice pieces and people are sleeping on them, but their schedule is a gauntlet.
