Prior to Michigan's convincing sweep of LSU this evening (-14,-11,-20), head coach Mark Rosen held his first "Chalk Talk" of the year with the season ticket holders. Highlights: - Coach Rosen talked about how much he likes this team and how they hit all of his checkboxes for the types of players he likes to have: high volleyball IQ; high expectations and goals; good students first; here for the right reasons. - senior captains each bring unique perspective to the team, believes their leadership will help them through challenges - said the team needs to be good but not great right now. They want to work towards the tourney and get to a point where they will be unstoppable, understanding there will be bumps along the road. - asked about redshirting, he said he wouldn't talk about specific players but the decisions are made in consideration of how good they think players will be down the road. - asked about having his largest team ever he sated that he loved the depth and competitiveness they show in the gym. - speaking about getting his 600th career win earlier he said he felt fortunate to be able to do most of it with Leisa at his side but he has never been in it for individual accolades - asked about what he is most proud of during his tenure at UM, he said his alumni. His favorite memory is having his first match in the Big 10 against Jim Stone and OSU and beating him in his last match. - He said he felt his best team was the 2009 squad and that this team rivals that. (If they continue to play like they did today, they just might!)

Why don't y'all have match threads? This was a big match. No motivation to create a match thread when the only two vtalkers that can watch are Northern lights & bprtbone

Good looking Michigan team. Best I can recall in several years. That’s 9 straight wins, and Blue has not dropped a set yet this season. The difference is the balanced attack and team defence is improved. Michigan has not really played anyone yet, but they had their way with a solid CSU team tonight.

Maybe threads will attract more fans! I typically do not create threads for matches I'm in attendance at, and it wasn't being streamed. Michigan is a sleeper team right now but won't be much longer. They are very, very good. As Northern lights mentioned, they have a very balanced offense with weapons all over the floor. Tonight freshman Paige Jones was the star, recording 18K at .500 with 7 (!!) aces. She just about single-handedly won the first two sets for Blue. Down 10-13 in the first, Jones got a kill then went on a 6 point service run that included 3 aces to flip the set. CSU had no answer for her. (Should have held on to her vup!) This was a good win for Michigan against a Colorado State team that came out firing and playing at a high level.

Moving this discussion into its proper thread. The refusal of Michigan Athletics to address its streaming issue along with its inability to build a new facility has broader implications over the future of the volleyball program. The name can only carry recruitment so far. Without streaming, the program is missing out on a broader fan base. Coupled with the long promised yet still not built indoor volleyball facility, Michigan is sending a clear message that they value mediocrity. I mean, they just built a beautiful new practice tank for its rowing teams which are club sports! But volleyball continues to get the shaft. Indiana is playing in a new facility this year, Northwestern is doing a big remodel and OSU's new facility is under construction. How much longer can the Rosen's get away with telling recruits a new arena is on the way? How is anyone outside of A2 supposed to actually see this team play? Leaders and Best? Please. While I agree with much of what you say, women's rowing is not a club sport. They've finished in the top 5 nationally seven times at the varsity level.

In fairness, the South Competition and Performance facility is a spectacular addition that can be used for training by all of the teams and athletes. I'm just venting frustration as a volleyball fan.

Some thoughts after the first weekend of B1G play:
- I think one of the prime season goals for this team is to get a tournament seed and host the first round. Even though it's early, hard fought wins like the one yesterday at Iowa are important to that end. - It was great to see the fight in S2 at Nebraska and disappointing to see how they collapsed mentally after that. Some argue for a tougher pre-con schedule, but the hallmark of Mark Rosen's teams is to get them playing their best at the end of the season. - I think 3rd-5th place in conference is the range the team is playing for. 3rd is probably way too optimistic but a 6th place or lower finish would be disappointing. - No one on the team or coaching staff would admit it, but the October 26 home match vs. Wisconsin has to be the one B1G contest circled on their calendar. That's the return of Tiffany Clark and I suspect her former classmates would secretly like nothing better than to beat her team on her old home floor. - Michigan leads the conference in digs and is 2nd in Opponent Hitting %. But all of those digs are coming at the expense of our woeful blocking game, next to last in the conference. Bair has shown promise up front in the pre-con, it's time to see what she can do in the B1G. - Shannon's play at MB has gotten better as we've progressed, need to see consistency and improvement from Crocker who played very well in the pre-con but had a very rough weekend. - At this point the plan for O'Leary must be to red shirt, barring any injury to Welsh. I'm ok with that in the long term but there have been times this season I would have liked to see what she could bring to the table. Mac can be incredibly great and incredibly frustrating all at the same time. - The early season success and the matches at Crisler Center are bringing a lot more attention to this team on campus. It's encouraging to see the increasing support for the team and the sport. - I'm putting this Sunday's match against Penn State at home in the 'expect to win' category. Not often that can be said.
Go Blue!

Mac is hitting .253 on 83 dump attempts, in 42 sets. As you know most dumps are 3 passes. Not a single starter is hitting over .300. What would be your advice to her in this instance?
