Mac is hitting .253 on 83 dump attempts, in 42 sets. As you know most dumps are 3 passes. Not a single starter is hitting over .300. What would be your advice to her in this instance? You really need to ask more questions if that’s the conclusion you’re drawing from those numbers.

She needs to establish her connections and stop taking good passes from her middles and pins. .253 on 83 dumps is not good for anyone.

You don't seem to understand the numbers you're looking at and are therefore reaching inaccurate conclusions. I'll help explain if you're interested. There are intelligent, legitimate criticisms of Welsh, but this is not one of them.

Some thoughts after the first weekend of B1G play: - I think one of the prime season goals for this team is to get a tournament seed and host the first round. Even though it's early, hard fought wins like the one yesterday at Iowa are important to that end. - It was great to see the fight in S2 at Nebraska and disappointing to see how they collapsed mentally after that. Some argue for a tougher pre-con schedule, but the hallmark of Mark Rosen's teams is to get them playing their best at the end of the season. - I think 3rd-5th place in conference is the range the team is playing for. 3rd is probably way too optimistic but a 6th place or lower finish would be disappointing. - No one on the team or coaching staff would admit it, but the October 26 home match vs. Wisconsin has to be the one B1G contest circled on their calendar. That's the return of Tiffany Clark and I suspect her former classmates would secretly like nothing better than to beat her team on her old home floor. - Michigan leads the conference in digs and is 2nd in Opponent Hitting %. But all of those digs are coming at the expense of our woeful blocking game, next to last in the conference. Bair has shown promise up front in the pre-con, it's time to see what she can do in the B1G. - Shannon's play at MB has gotten better as we've progressed, need to see consistency and improvement from Crocker who played very well in the pre-con but had a very rough weekend. - At this point the plan for O'Leary must be to red shirt, barring any injury to Welsh. I'm ok with that in the long term but there have been times this season I would have liked to see what she could bring to the table. Mac can be incredibly great and incredibly frustrating all at the same time. - The early season success and the matches at Crisler Center are bringing a lot more attention to this team on campus. It's encouraging to see the increasing support for the team and the sport. - I'm putting this Sunday's match against Penn State at home in the 'expect to win' category. Not often that can be said. Go Blue! Those digs and solid floor defense gave the Huskers fits. Sooooooo many balls they were used to seeing hit the floor were consistently upped by that skunk bear defense. Loooooooong rallies were the norm in that match and those long rallies took a tole stamina wise. In the end what won that match for Nebraska was the Huskers second to none SCN (strength/conditioning/nutrition) You could see Michigan begin to run out of gas late in the third set. That fourth set they were running on fumes. The Huskers were still humming and slammed the door.

Try to stick to the question at hand and do not go off on some stupid tangent to draw attention from the simple fact that our setter dumps way too much and is not affective in doing it.

Week 6 Rosen Report. It's interesting to hear about the team's attitude shift between being crushed on Friday and getting ready for Sunday.

Go Blue! If O’Leary is as good as advertised is she going to be okay with riding the bench for two years if Walsh keeps the starting spot this year and next? Almost seems like a waste to keep one of her four years on the bench? Unless they run a 6-2 next year but I can’t remember Michigan ever doing that.

Great feature from the UM SID group with a gameday look from the locker room and bench. Love hearing what the Rosen's say on the sidelines. It always looks like Leisa is yelling at her middles, but her shout out to Crocker in this clip is the opposite of what it looks like from the stands.

Michigan ran a 6-2 the year before Welsh came in, with two walk ons (Carly Warner & Maddy Abbott) I think O’leary will be the setter next season for sure.

Michigan HC Mark Rosen held his second "Chalk Talk" session of the season last night prior to the Purdue match. Highlights: - Talked about the Crisler Center matches and how the Administration has been pleased so far with the attendance. Showing off Crisler helps with recruits. He relayed an analogy that Sydney Wetterstrom came up with about the two different volleyball venues: Cliff Keen is like Christmas Eve and Crisler is like Christmas Day. (No mention of a new arena. I get the feeling that the plan is to utilize Crisler more and more) - Addressed the change from the 10 minute intermission to 5 minutes. Said the Big 10 coaches fought hard against it but lost out in the end. Felt that B1G attendance is higher and it can hurt concessions. He also said there was really only anectodal evidence about fans leaving and viewers dropping off at the break, the primary reasons the change was made. He did say there is better evidence on the TV numbers this year that support the change. Ha also said that coaches have to agree in advance about whether to stay on the court or go to the locker room between sets and mainly depends on the venue and how far they have to go. - Reflected on the 10 year anniversary of the Title IX suit that forced Michigan to change up the seasons for several sports, including volleyball. (Background here) It's been a boon for volleyball in Michigan, allowing for athletes to compete in full club seasons, but has hurt other sports. It put a crunch on coaches and officials but now is the norm and everyone has adjusted. He definitely has seen an increase in quality of vb players in the State and has helped recruiting. One more of these next month before the Nebraska home match, stay tuned!
