Rosen Report, Week 12. Mark recaps the Indiana loss and the Wiscy win, including a break down of the 7-0 run that closed out S3 in Wisconsin; talks about Welsh and Crocker getting healthy; the struggles of balancing travel, practice and academics; and previews the Maryland and Nebraska matches coming up this week. Somewhat shockingly, Rosen mentions Erin O'Leary being healthy and having two setters again (immediately followed by a strange blip in the video as if there was an attempt to edit). I'm not taking that comment seriously, her redshirt seems pretty obvious at this point.

Michigan HC Mark Rosen held his final "Chalk Talk" session of the season last night prior to the Nebraska match. Highlights:
- Said that the biggest difference in the team today versus where they were a month ago is in how they are scoring points. Not getting as many kills which he attributed to injury and the resulting lineup changes. Less offensive balance means opponents are focusing more on our OH's. - Talked about how the loss of Crocker impacted their blocking game. (Michigan is next to last in the B1G) Her presence up front often leads to avoidance errors even when she is not getting the block. She is not 100% yet, playing RS right now and working to get her back in the middle. - Proud of his team and how hard they have been working to get better - He was disappointed in the team's effort against Maryland, and he doesn't say that very often. He felt that they played too soft defensively in S1, allowed Maryland to get momentum that they never gave up. - Mentioned that an extensive video story about senior Maddy Abbott is in the works and should be released this week - Addressed the O'Leary decision. He said she was recovering from health issues earlier in the season and they had a long discussion about her options. Ultimately she wanted to contribute this year. Expect to see more of her, especially as a serving sub. - Talked about tweaks they have made to their serve receive alignment. Trying to get Lerg as much floor coverage as possible. - He was asked what club players should do to get noticed by college coaches. His advice was to invest more in making yourself better and less in marketing yourself. If you are a good player, coaches will find you. Play for a good club, invest in lessons.

Terrific in depth feature on senior Maddy Abbott, her famous Dad, her path to Michigan and how she has been able to carve her own path in Ann Arbor both on and off the court.

I think Michigan can go pretty far in the tournament. I like our chances in the subregional, Pitt is a winnable match if our defense plays solid. Beating Texas? That's a different beast.

Instead of posting this week's Rosen Report, where Mark talks about "if we are lucky enough to get past Navy"; scouting Iona and other silly things coaches are expected to say at tournament time, I'd rather share the tournament preview feature piece. Here Coach Rosen is pretty honest is his assessment of the team's season and what the impact of injuries and lack of depth has played.
