Whoa...I did not know that that was a requirement to host. Unless they can change the venue, my tickets say zero matches in Mackey. Coach Shondell touched on wanting to host again in his weekly Facebook live interview. Purdue hasn’t hosted in years, but I would think that they always hold out hope to host again. Purdue hosted the first weekend in holloway iirc? Yes, they hosted in Holloway.

I think that they hosted the first and second round in Holloway, but would host sweet 16/elite 8 in Mackey.

It was shocking to see Purdue play so poorly in the third set. Coach Shondell was playing a bunch of Freshman towards the end of the set, but still. I hope that they see their flaws and correct them because Notre Dame will be even more difficult to beat. Honestly, they weren't so hot in the 1st set either. They served their way out of that set via Otec and Peters. They were playing from behind a lot. I liked what Coach Shondell did in the 3rd set by making them play their way through it. When conference time comes around, they can't be that sloppy. There aren't enough timeouts to correct poor play from the hitters or passers. I like what I see from Cleveland/Newton but they have to really bring it because they're going to get majority of the out of system balls. Anything in-system is an automatic to Atkinson and the middles. What I didn't like this match was Atkinson's back row play. I desperately wanted a DS subbed in because Atkinson wasn't a presence on defense and there weren't any real effective balls set to her as a back row attack. Passing with two can work but I'm not sure we're fully there yet. Not if any means Bush has to run all over the court. Also I think I'm ready for Johnson to have that MB2 spot. Love Cuttino but she's not an offensive threat and we need that to take eyes off Atkinson. Also liked Joiner as a potential OPP if Atkinson isn't cutting it. Van Zelst was pretty solid in set 2; Reisinger is definitely making a case to be on the court a lot more.

Yes, the first set wasn’t pretty and Purdue played just well enough to win that first set. Oakland did a good job of scouting us. Mohler did well in the first set, but Atkinson was being blocked. When Coach Shondell pulled Atkinson out of the third set, it reminded me of the Ariel Turner years. Pull out the starter to let her rest because he knew that that set was over and he needed her more for the upcoming set. After sitting out, Atkinson played with a purpose and an urgency in set 4. She was really diving for the digs. Like I always say, I don’t know much about skills in volleyball...but it looked like she was trying even harder in set 4 to dig better. I am assuming that you were at the match in person? I saw that the fans of Oakland really wanted the refs to call 2 touch a lot. Was Purdue committing that many 2 touches? I saw them complaining when Peters was setting, but did Bush really commit that many as well? I did like Johnson when she came in to play. But I think that Cuttino blocks very well. I cannot remember how well Johnson blocked. Reisinger was on fire at the service line. I wish I could have seen Joiner play more. Van Zelst was doing well. I felt so bad for the Freshman Emma though. She must have been so nervous.

Purdue closes out the win over Notre Dame 3-1 to move to 5-0 on the season.
I saw flashes of really good play today, and it was an entertaining day, close sets and good rallies. 12 on ND was everywhere it felt like.
Next weekend should be really interesting, 3 teams that I feel like Purdue SHOULD beat, but could easily lose to if they're not on their game.

She was swarming. I also liked #3 on the ND side. The rallies were very fun to watch. The second set was the most fun to watch. Purdue will be challenged next week for sure. I hope I can attend all three matches. Should be some good volleyball played by all 4 teams.

Another successful weekend for the boilers, grinding out a close 5 setter against a solid louisville team, a sweep of lipscomb and a 4 set win against xavier.
Next will be interesting. First time a relatively young team will be on the road. That Alabama game will be big for the boilers.

Whew!!!! Louisville won 2 sets, but it sure felt like Louisville won 4. Purdue was off all night until set 5. I was really disappointed in the way that Purdue ended the 2nd set. As cold as Atkinson was tonight, thank goodness that the other players got some sets and it seemed like everyone had at least 5 kills. Looking at the stats, I am surprised that Atkinson and Cleveland received so many sets. I think that Newton, Cuttino, and Mohler could have received more sets and had more kills. Number 12 was so good at the service line. She will be in the Purdue players nightmares. I am glad that Purdue figured out a way to win. They really needed a game like this to prepare for good teams. It will be a grind out, night in and night out in the Big Ten. Louisville was definitely in this match the whole time. They are a very good team.

Well that was a frustrating week, happy to get 3 wins, but it feels like this young team makes things MUCH harder than they need to. I would not be surprised at all to see them lose a set to rutgers (possible slight exaggeration). I definitely hope I'm wrong.
Conference play is starting up and it starts with a bang, match of 2 unbeaten teams. Holloway should be hopping.

Purdue will have to have their heads in these matches. The radio commentators this weekend said that they could see in the body language if Purdue was going to win or not. That’s how I felt last year looking at the team. If they came out with a glazed over look, you knew it was going to be a long night. I hope that Purdue defends their home court well. I will be cheering them on hard.
