Purdue definitely was a much more predictable team this year in terms of wins/losses. I thought that Bush did a great job, especially as a freshman. In her defense, I don't think I've ever seen a setter run so much to chase down balls - she was SPRINTING all throughout that match with Kentucky. It was crazy how much better Kentucky was at getting Purdue out of system than Purdue was. They absolutely MUST get better ball control - without the production of Atkinson next year (over 4 kills/set), they will have to spread that around and the hitters will be much better if they don't have a double block on them. Cleveland/Newton had a TON of OOS swings and the Kentucky block made them just funnel their swings to their libero. Substituting rules havent changed, they just don't have the personnel to get it done - but next year - Hornung/Otec will be a year older and hopefully an OH/OPP will step up and contribute. We have a number of OH hitters coming in, so that increased competition will only make them better. Thanks for your reply too. I did see Bush running around a lot during games at Holloway. She looked gassed sometimes...but she had more and more stamina as the season went on and she only got better and better. Purdue was fortunate to have so many Freshman step up. I really enjoyed watching Jael Johnson develop into a better player. Cleveland was heavily touted and did not disappoint. I saw that you mentioned Otec/Hornung but what about Terwilliger/Van Zelst/Reisinger? Who would fill the position of the third passer? I saw that Van Zelst came in a few times, but Terwilliger played less than Olivia.

I saw that Van Zelst came in a few times, but Terwilliger played less than Olivia. Van Zelst came in as a serving sub. She rarely played a full back row rotation. But she did do her job very well, serving a few teams into trouble. Terwilliger had some passing issues and only played back row occasionally for Atkinson. There's hope she could develop. The best option without a doubt is Reisinger. She's hopefully going to take Peters spot next year. The problem is your DS players will never be on the court at the same time unless you're subbing out the OPP. One of the OHs will have to pass for a few rotations. The biggest upside was how much Newton improved over the season as a passer. At the start of the season, she was like Cleveland--only passing 10% of the court. By mid-to-late season, Newton was passing 33% of the court and doing it pretty well. She also played back row a few times when Otec struggled. Newton is the key. If she can be a 6-rotation OH or OPP, it'll help Otec/Hornung.
