I get that last year was a massive rebuilding year, after graduating five starters. It didn't help that their two returning underclassmen starters left too. So the team paid their dues last year and in theory put players on the court that would grow together. Fralix and Lanier turned in some fantastic numbers and it looked genuininely like the mission to rebuild was on track.
But then, their two most productive hitters just vanished. Every year players seem to vanish from the Erskine roster at a higher percentage than any other school. Do they cut people? What is happening that players like Perez-Vargas, Liepert, Fralix, and Lanier don't last four years (heck, two of them were one-and-done) with the program?

I doubt players of that importance to their program would be cut. I would assume that it is players leaving the program and either finding another school or finding a school with a solid club program. Erskine's players weren't exactly getting treated like D1-D2 athletes. Program receives very little funding and school isn't great academically, a good amount of their players would be better off finding a D3, NAIA, or even playing for a club program.

Coach comes from a very religious background. It's either his way or your gone. His brother is the exact same way and I believe coaching somewhere that doesn't win, it runs in the family

he was a beast player though... like absolute monster.
coulda went anywhere but stayed with the family due to religious reasons.
but anyway... when they had roberto perez vargas and mike michelau and mike schneck... this erskine team was on their way to becoming a power in the carolinas.
what a shame this program has now become.

Wow, they more than their dynamic outsides from last year. Also, both setters who saw court time to give Talavera, their OH converted to S a chance to play on the left side in a few games. All they return is the middles, their senior libero, and Jones and Spence, who split time at OPP. Pretty sad.

The school has become a nightmare to attend. Very strict and quite frankly not much to do in the middle of nowhere. When Schmitt had the program it was on it's way to becoming a top program with solid recruiting that included Perez-Vargas, Michelau, Schneck, Mike Kawa ( Transferred to D3). With a team of sophomores and a freshman they won the conference and even beat Cal Baptist and took a set off Lewis.
They also had that scandal back in 2015 taking a stance against homosexuals. It's just not the best place to be unless you are quite conservative and apparently players notice quickly.
Since the program started in the 2013 here are some of the players that saw playing time and left before 4 years
Corey Marks - Setter Perez-Vargas- OH M. Kawa - MH A Davis - Opp J Varona - L I Lanier - OH J Leipert- MH A Brandstetter - S
on top of many bench players that also have vanished.

Personally I love spreading the men's game across the country. But I would have to think the men's game is much better off with more teams at D1 Northeast-Midwest region than D2 in the Southeast, especially some of the independents. Obviously it is much more complicated than that.

Obviously it is much more complicated than that. Everyone would prefer DI programs in the Northeast or Midwest adding.. The DII's adding are simply looking from an admissions/numbers standpoint, that is all.

Can we just re-hash this thread again? Just checked their roster. WHAT IS GOING ON?
2018 roster consisted of 8 freshmen, 5 sophomores, 2 juniors and 1 senior. Of those expected to return (15), only FOUR remain. 1 sophomore from the 8 freshmen class, 2 juniors of 5 sophomores, and 1 of the 2 juniors.
The 2019 roster has 17 freshmen, 1 sophomores, 2 juniors and one senior. Of the four non-freshmen, only three actually played last year, and they combined for 38 total starts.

They get players there with exaggerated perks about the school, then they get there and meet a not so good coach, find themselves in the middle of nowhere attending a school that doesn't let them to anything to have fun. And it is expensive from what I've heard. Sad story about a program that was at the top of the conference on its second year of existence and just plummeted after coach Schmitt left. What is he up to now after Cal Bap?

I heard through the grapevine that the program is very poorly run, no sense of budget, practice plans are childish, no assistant coaches what-so-ever. Nothing of what any of the guys expected playing/program wise. Will most likely see the same trend of transfers this year as well unless drastic changes happen.

Have you ever visited the school? While it is a pretty little campus....it is in a very small town (like one stop light small), it is pretty isolated and fairly far from anything and has a fairly heavy religious vibe at the school. Certainly not for everyone.
