When was the last time cif had an actual state title game or tournament? Is it feasible? It had to be pre-2010 because I worked the 1st SoCal Regional at Irvine Valley College that year. It was a disappointment though because it was the last week of school for some of the players and they had to choose between Commencement Ceremonies, their Senior Prom or playing in the CIF-State SoCal Regional. I believe that year was Simi Valley vs. a STRONG Loyola team (Michael Mullahey, Robert Feathers, are some of the names). Simi Valley had their Prom and essentially showed up with their JV team that got hammered.

While I like Simi and that is where my boys play, they have never been good (Next year though, might be one of their biggest years). A side story,: This was back in the early 80s, but Chatsworth was a solid team. Their coach told them that they could do pretty good in state, but he could not go. One of the player's dad gave them the keys to his motor home and they went up and won state with no coach. I have a feeling that would not be allowed now?

www.cifstate.org/sports/boys_volleyball/past_records_results/BVlbl_Reg_Brackets_09.PDFYou may be combining years; Royal and Westlake (then both from the Marmonte League) played in the 2009 CIF State "Regional" Championships. Westlake (Travis and Colby Magorien, Keats Stanely, Jake Kneller) had pretty strong group that year and half the squad had conflicts that prevented them from playing in the final vs. Loyola @ Capo Valley. Neither Royal nor Westlake (nor Simi) played in 2010 @ IVC.

Looks like all the Southern Section teams won except Palisades beat South. So the Semis will be Loyola,l vs Harbor and CDM vs Palisades.
Orange Lutheran and Saddleback Valley both advanced too in D2.

I believe Scott Kevorken was on that team so it may have been a Westlake team. I'll go look it up when I get a moment.

Did CdM get the #1 seed with a 34-4 record over #2 Newport Harbor 34-1 record because of the CIF-SS D1 win? It seems odd because the CIF-State manual says that overall records are to be considered and CdM is 1-2 vs. NH AND the Win-Loss % is lower.

They also look at $$$$. What is going to help them get the most fans. This year it is a little easier because teams don’t have to travel as far since the central section must be included in the northern section for state (regionals).

Didn't CDM beat Loyola in the CIFSS Finals, but Loyola went ahead and beat them in the Socal Regionals Final?
