Oh man, RIP. I enjoyed his shows quite a lot. Shocked and dismayed to hear him go so suddenly. This came out of the blue. Maybe he had struggled with depression or some other mental illnesses for years. Or maybe he showed no outward symptoms until it was too late. Being a chef is a high pressure occupation, so that doesn't help. Although he has left the restaurant business for televison for quite a while now, I guess he can't leave his pressure behind. In any case, sucidal people don't always show warning signs. They may appear normal until their abrupt death.
Sigh...just sad to hear this. My condolences to his family and friends.

In the pictures, over the last couple months, that were posted he looked uncharacteristically thin, almost frail. Was he suffering from an illness that he may have felt like he did not want to just wither away, or deal with a slow painful process?
Regardless, he was very talented and I enjoyed his various shows because they focused not only on food, and many times unusual places, but the human element at all levels. Prayers to his family and RIP Anthony Bourdain.

This one hurts. Such an artistic storyteller, authentic human being, and a general bad ass all around.
Heading to Li Po Lounge later here in San Francisco to have a Chinese Mai Tai, a libation he very much enjoyed, in his honor. I'll leave one out at the bar in case he needs it.
Move in peace, Anthony.

Most addicts have a few things in common. They are smarter than average, so they see the ugliness in everything. They also talk about a life of isolation, where they feel trapped inside themselves. It is the reason they use, the substance provides a relief from the constant inward focus. Addiction is a disorder not necessarily related to substance abuse. Addicts will talk about feelings of isolation long before they ever took a substance for relief. Very sad that this man who seemingly was living an envious life, decided to end it himself.

On the other hand, addiction does not necessarily HAVE to be the reason for his decision to commit suicide. If you read the article, it talks about his life pre-fame and his drug problem, the same article also talks about how disciplined and absolutely disciplined he was in being able to do his job. I am not sure a direct jump to the addiction conclusion is correct.

Very sad that this man who seemingly was living an envious life, decided to end it himself. Guess he was following Pete Thownsends advice.

The suicide rate amongst addicts is 6 times the normal average. High functioning addicts are common. Besides I never said addiction was the cause.

Until they do an autopsy we don't really know whether he was back on it. Or that his previous addiction plays a role. You seem to believe in guilty until proven innocent.
