How is Serbia winning this match without the big two? Where are their points coming from ? (Not able to watch rn) Serbia has been serving well and USA is struggling especially M.B.H, while the Serbians are receiving well... Bjelica is doing what Boskovic does and getting it done for them. ...Blagojevic and Milenkovic are getting some kills also... Serbia is just not using their middles at all.

24-18 Hill jf, Blagojević left line tool down 25-18 = 3-1.
Serbia +28-23+20+18 USA. Nobody showed up, and Serbia's kids were fearless and sharp.

Serbia covered so many blocks from the USA. Serbia ball control and defense were fantastic today.

I didn't expect Serbia without Boskovic would beat the USA after they, with Boskovic, just lost to the Dutch. Quite a nice comeback for the Serbs.

I just finished watching the match and have watched basically every match played by all the big contender teams so far. Milenkovic/Blagojevic/Bjelica just played their best matches of the campaign ALL IN THE SAME GAME. Add to that a bit of jet-lag/fatigue stir in a bit of overconfidence based on USA's previous awesome run and seeing they were playing a "B" team....and top it off with the worst passing/receiving game played in this ENTIRE VNL by our passing unit.....and just for fun sprinkle in a total lack of communication on MANY plays by the entire team = A game that Serbia should have won in straight sets. It all boils down to the pass which Krob and MBH struggled so hard with today. To her credit, Hill passed relatively well but made a ton of foot errors coming in from the pipe and just wasn't hitting very aggressively. I was just sitting there begging Karch to sub in a few other players....probably Larson and Gibbemeyer and HELL let Hancock have a go. Hats off to all those who were calling out Lloyd for poor sets to the middles and off to the right in general....I really looked for it today and I cannot believe I just now noticed how bad it actually is. To her credit she was not getting good chances due to passes being really off today but STILL.....really sucks being a middle indeed . Serbia had a game plan (Fire hard through the high hands of the Block) and they executed it to PERFECTION. I also laughed at the commentator saying that 5 of Serbia's stars were missing from the lineup. UMMMMM....yeah Boskovic and Mihajlovic were not there but he seemed to think that Popovic (Libero) and Antonijevic (Setter) were stars.....IMO Zivkovic is their starting Setter. And Pusic (today's libero) played some amazing defense and passed better than Popovic has been. It is also worth mentioning that Serbia was coming off of an unsuccessful round in week 4 losing in 5 sets to the Dutch and Italy. They were out to prove something today. Also I have never wanted us to end up in the same pool for the finals as Brazil MORE than at this moment. I am hoping Serbia ends up in Pool A with China for the Finals and we stick with Brazil. Basically Brazil needs to beat Italy on thursday which is possible but the Italians are looking really good right now but I fear they could miss out on the finals by the narrowest of margins. We shall see! I hope USA learns from this and moves forward. Better to lose now than in the finals. Just some thoughts :-) I'm new to the board and am glad to get to chime in!

Can someone stat how many times we get tooled compared to the field. Block error percentage for likely finalists entering this week: 29.9% China 30.5% USA 30.6% Brazil 30.7% Netherlands 30.7% Turkey 32.0% Serbia

Serbia still does not have a starting setter...they still keep switching Zivkovic & Antonijevic and Mirkovic has got some decent playing time so far. Popovic is their starting libero. And he refers to Malesevic as the 5th starter missing ( she`s there but she`s recovering from a minor injury).

This, basically. Especially the bolded part. Well said. Wouldn't worry too much. This is what happens when you play basically the same lineup for 5 straight weeks, in such a gruelling competition.

Nobody showed up, and Serbia's kids were fearless and sharp. Zivkovic and Blagojevic are 30 and Rasic is 28.

I'm sorry, but we did not lose because of jet lag. We lost because we sent the same players who had been playing in Asia for weeks to Argentina without any rest. We did not have to lose because of jet lag - we could have sent reinforcements, given the rest of our roster some valuable playing time, and who knows, maybe pulled out a win. There is no way "jet lag" was an unseen circumstance. But anyways, we sent our A-Team to lose to Serbia's B-team BUT IT WAS BECAUSE OF JET LAG so there's really no value in analyzing this game, and now they get to beat up on South Korea and Argentina (assuming, they get over their #jetlag).
I'm frustrated.

I'm frustrated. At least you’re not jet lagged because then you might understand a bit. It’s horrible. Never said it wasn't horrible. I'm saying it was avoidable. By starting 7 players (playing 9) who were just in Asia for 3 weeks, either 1) Karch is stupid and doesn't know what jet lag is or 2) wrote this game off because there is literally no way he thought these players wouldn't experience jet lag. In other words, by dragging our A-Team to Argentina and probably just accepting they were going to suffer against Serbia, our only real competition this leg, we've deemed this game as invaluable.

Let's face it..... this system is NOT effect for our right side attack. We have tall, athletic opposites who are ROUTINELY getting blocked one on one... even in system! We can blame poor setting..... we can blame the opposites for an inability to hit smart. Both of these things has some truth, but USA has not gotten solid, consistent performance from the right side for 5 years now. Let's face it..... this lightening fast/low set to the right side is hamstringing our opposites. It is magnifying and exposing their weaknesses. I think our opposites would be even MORE effective if they ran a double quick behind the setter. If beating the block is the goal, this would be a more effective attack than what they are doing now.
Ultimately, the right side hitters need more time. This system is too stressful on the setter and the right side attack. Again, we have seen this problem for 5 years now.
