The jet lag speculation is a bit exaggerated. It's not like this is the first time any of these players have flown in an airplane, whether it's Europe or Asia. Of course not and It's not my first time either.. I flown probably more than any of them and its always difficult going West to East with that many time zones no mater how you slice it. It's hard. Very few people beat Jet Lag of that magnitude in a day or two. It sounds silly but once you've experienced it and it happens to you then you get it. I used to think it was a bunch of crap until I it hit me hard. One I get home I try to stay up late so I usually would go to bed at 10pm and wake up at 1am thinking I had a full nights rest and then wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. My body thinks I'm taking a nap in the afternoon because at 1am CT its like 3pm in Tokyo... Your body is confused and it takes a bit to catch up. This happens coming from Asia traveling east more times than not. It almost always takes me 3-4 days if I'm lucky to get some sleep on the plane to adjust back to my normal time.

But I mean, these girls are just gonna pack up and fly back to the States.. and then a few days later cross the Pacific again back to China for the Finals. Seriously, why not let some rest up in Anaheim and give some of the next generation some reps against a Serbian B+ team that is WAY better than anybody they'd see at PanAms. Why didn't they just stay in Asia and send a B team to Argentina. Save on the flight.

I also fly often, and though I'm not prone to jet lag, I understand some people are. The point is Tokyo or Beijing to LA, and then to Argentina is long, but straight forward.

We lost....? Damn.. I didn't see that coming.. Damn Jet lag.. Jet lag? Didn't they arrive in South America on Sunday morning? And didn't Serbia fly in from the Netherlands? Serbia had a even worse schedule....They went from Serbia to Brazil to China to Serbia to Netherlands to Argentina. USA played at home the first week ...Omaha - Asia - Argentina.

Match stats (sorry for the delay): Hitting percentages for Drews, Adams, and Foluke look bad, but some of the balls they were getting were just sooooo unhittable. Lloyd still struggles mightily on everything behind.

Let's see. The OPP's aren't hitting because the sets are too low, because they're too low, too fast, not located properly, the setter can't set to the right, the OPP's aren't any good. The only thing of which I'm sure is that nobody here has a clue, but they each have a clueless opinion.

Well, the next generation would've needed to be on the prelim roster, but the staff decided in April that they had no intention of using this event for development. I find it unconscionable that it was fed to these athletes that there was no way, across five weeks of matches, to get anyone else any experience. They should too.

Were athletes told there was "no way...to get anyone else any experience" in this event? I dont believe they were told that. The players know that the roster could have been handled differently -- that there are ways the event could have been used like some fans would prefer. The players weren't told this was impossible. They were told, according to players and coaches, what the roster would be for the event. The coaches are open to receiving suggestions about roster management from those of you with expertise on the matter.

I agree with pretty much everything said in the last page or so of this thread. So the Tempo works for the Outside and the pipe attack but not for the right side. I feel like the tempo could also be the problem with setters not connecting to our middles as well from what many of you have mentioned. Karch isn't likely to change the tempo unfortunately. But I am hopeful he can find a pair of opposites that CAN at least somewhat make the tempo work for them. Karsta did a decent job but also struggled some with the block when the pressure was on but has done a far better job than Murphy who by this point should have acclimated to the fast tempo. Drews is still young and hits with a ton of power and has shown some skill with some off tempo shots and finding the seams on the court. Will someone remind me of what was wrong with the 2012 quad again? Other than losing in the final to Brazil...the squad seemed solid winning three Grand Prix titles in a row 2010-2012, 2nd at the 2011 World Cup, and 4th at the World Championships. I assume we played a different tempo under McCutcheon? I guess I am looking for a good comparison between the London Quad and the Rio Quad and where we are at in the Tokyo Quad and hell toss in the Beijing quad under Lang Ping too. Anyone up for that task? Sorry.......eager noob here :-)
