Has anyone projected BYU's RPI this year? I can honestly see them only losing 1-2 matches during the regular season. Depending on RPI, they're a non-P5 team that could throw a wrench into the tournament seeding committee's plans. They play Duke twice, Stanford, Wichita State, Southern Cal, Marquette and Utah pre-conference. I see three or four losses just there and maybe one to USD later on since they play a home and home. BYU will beat Duke twice, Wichita State, and Utah unless they play extremely poorly. USC, Stanford, and Marquette are tough. I say BYU wins just one of those three. I honestly could see BYU running the table (in the WCC). USD losing Gengenbacher and Kennedy is going to be really tough for them to replace. They are still strong in the middle!

BYU will lose only to Stanford. USC will give them a hard rub, but I see the Cougars coming out on top in four. They're a veteran team that has upgraded the middle and improved their bench.

I should have been more clear with my previous post. I see three or four *possible* losses. Not saying they will lose three or four of those pre-conference games, but I’d cap it around there. I’d say it’s not improbable that Duke sneaks one out against them during their two matches in two days. Stanford will most likely beat them (if BYU wins, that would send shockwaves and would be awesome). I think Khalia Lanier and USC will be good and could knock off the Cougs, but we’ll see with the new coach. Marquette is my dark horse and could pull of an upset assuming 6’6” Rosenthal plays well and is a force at the net.
My guess is this could be a great season for BYU and I’m happy to see they’re playing legitimate teams in the pre-conference slate.

There were 3 teams in '17 that I kinda adopted, besides my team (Stanford: I'm a grad-alum) and UH Na Wahine (where I live). This was one of them; was based on good "fundies" & camaraderie.

Looking forward to watch some matches (or replays). Really like the BYUtv broadcasts (my favorites besides the ones from Hawai'i).

BYU TV puts on very professional quality broadcasts and generally has very well informed, as well as having as surprisingly balanced (ie. non-homer), announcing as it gets. Fun to watch.

Any way we can send their crew on the road so they can broadcast the USC/BYU game at Marquette ? It will be an absolute shame if there is no-stream there. A potential top-10 match.

Let me try again with this question (last time I posted it, unfortunately the thread got derailed). For all you long time BYU observers, what makes BYU so consistently strong in the blocking department year after year?

For all you long time BYU observers, what makes BYU so consistently strong in the blocking department year after year? Carl McGown was a great blocking coach. The current and previous coach are Gold Medal Square coaches, thus they use Carl’s methods. My opinion/guess.

I don't think it's at all clear or straightforward. BYU has the skill and the size to compete with anyone on any given day IMO.
