Relax. Chris and Leahy used to refer to the DSs as the smurfs or the littles ... mostly during the Villaroman/Illustre years. Yeah they called um smurfs for years.lol Maybe its politically correct now because of the day and age we are living in but this is nothing even remotely new. Especially if you followed Hawaii volleyball.

Hard to believe that the 2011 match against USC was almost 8 years ago.
Ive said this before but it is by far the greatest match i have ever witnessed in person. Just truly phenomenal.

I don't recall the girls getting offended by that label. Its all in good fun and nobody meant any disrespect by calling them "Smurfs".
BTW...Smurfs are supposed to be cute so it should not be looked at as an insult.

And if you look at who called them that McLaughlin and Leahy, both respected broadcasters, you know they have nothing but respect for the program.

I could be mistaken but I thought the Wahine back row girls themselves came up with the "smurf" nickname, which was repeated by Cindy Luis in one of her articles, which was then repeated again by McLaughlin and Leahy.

As of now (11 AM, 3/6/2019), there was no press release and the spring match isn't even on the online schedule.
