Not surprised and happy for her! I do feel libero is one spot where USA could be deeper. (Robinson can also go back to hitting when Larson retires) Someone earlier said Carly Kan was also in the training block as a libero.

Interesting response from Cindy when Bailey Choy was mentioned in the comments of her blog:
“Interesting that you should mention Choy. She no longer is on the Utah roster. UH does need a second setter for 2019. hmmm As for her playing beach, and being on scholarship, think that’s a reach.”
Hmmmmm indeed

I don’t think Jeff Hall would give Chow a beach scholarship, given that there are far superior recruits out there who need it.

Why would Bailey need a beach scholarship if she can get one from indoor? Have you guys forgotten that one scholarship was freed up when Trinity Castaneda transferred out?
I am guessing if Bailey wants to come home, this scholarship will be hers. If not, Robyn will probably use it to find a grad transfer since our team will be so young and in desperate need of more experience. I even think a MB would help. Krug had surgery and Westerberg and Igiede are still wet behind the ears so an experienced one will help.

I’m assuming Choy will get the last indoor scholarship if she transfers in. There would actually be a battle between Iosia if Choy comes in because she’s a really good setter. A little undersized, but a better mover.

Iosia is a much better all around player than Choy. Noreen is a excellent blocker(much better than some of our full time pin hitters), a very good digger, a deadly jump server and a double double machine(with four triple-double). She will also be a four year player at UH, a participant on the Collegiate National Team, a multiple time all conference player and a scholar athlete. You don't sit that kind of talent/leadership on the bench. Norene's resume has got to be one of the most impressive one at UH in terms of being an all around great volleyball player and student. We can do like last season with Maafala/Gaskin. Have Sibley or whomever wins the OPP position sub in when Choy rotates to the front row and keep Iosia in to hit OPP when Bailey rotates to the back. Take my word....if Choy comes in, she will only have one year left and Robyn will make sure she is in along with Norene. Neither one of them will be sitting on the bench.

I think Iosa should be 100% setter. That way all she have to do is concentrate on her setting. If she wants to be a pt Opp, that should be up to her.

There were a lot of factors in Iosia having to hit last year. IF Hawaii gets Choy or any quality setter, I don't think a 6-2 is guaranteed.

It looks like former Wahines joined the team to Hilo this weekend: Burns, Granato, Kahakai, and Higgins. Assuming some of them will join the team on their upcoming spring matches.

I doubt Burns and Granato will either. I don’t think either one’s are in shape to play. I think players that have aspirations to continue to play after college are ones that could play. Somebody like Tita Akiu(who is still trying out for the National team) or maybe even Angel Gaskin, who is currently on the beach team but not playing much as all. At least both are in good shape and are currently training in some level of volleyball.
Cindy Luis mentioned that Akiu still trains with the team but no meantion of anyone else.
Hate for somebody, whose volleyball career is over, getting hurt in a meaningless match.

Make no sense at all..... Well they would play in the case that there is a lack of returning players that can suitably fill in all the positions, or they would be there just in case there are any injured players and to prevent an injury from possibly occurring. Right now our roster is pretty small since we will bring in around 5-6 players in the Fall. For example, with Krug coming off of surgery, I have no idea if she is cleared to practice, and they may just want her to focus on making a full recovery, so they may put in Williams for both MB positions. However, at some points, to risk potential injury and let Williams rest a little, it would be good to have a second middle (who is a former player) to play in the match.
