I feel like San Diego State and Portland State (1-15) are definitely hot. SDSU is a mystery, but what is going on at PSU? The bottom fell out quickly. A look at their roster and they have some pretty talented freshman, a quality setter, outside, and talented libero. What is going on, I thought this coaching staff was well-respected but geez! Portland St is dealing with one of their best players transfering last year, a lot of injuries, and a incredibly tough non conference schedule. A perfect storm for a rough season. If they can get healthy they will do ok the last half of the season.

So "hot seat" refers to a seat that is so hot, you can't sit still? So, you stand? I'm not really getting the metaphor. The metaphor is the "electric chair". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_seatOh that does make a lot of sense. I was thinking Hot Pockets and getting nowhere...

I'm going to throw this one out even though I don't think he is really on the hot seat, more maybe the luke-warm seat... Joe Sagula at UNC. He went from a top 5/6 recruiting class in 2016 and one of the best seasons in school history to losing nearly every one of those recruits to transfer/medical/quitting after the 2017 season, to losing his entire staff to Tennessee (and Eve was thought to be the natural successor to Joe), to having 7 freshman and 3 transfers this year, and working on the second straight season of .500 or less volleyball after 7 straight seasons of 20+ wins. Joe has been there 28 years so he probably writes his own ticket and has plenty of rope to work with. However, another season or two trending in this direction may lead to a discussion needing to be had. Don’t know if Joe is in trouble or not but can’t blame him for the staff leaving, all of them almost triple their salaries and more than double the support for the program. UNC didn’t have a chance if a SEC came calling and UT did.

Everyone, I mean everyone, loves Joe at Carolina.

UH's FB coach was hot last season. This year they're likely going to be 7-2.
Mid 2018, as it stands currently, the WVB seat is just a tad bit warmer than luke.

I'm going to take heat for this, but I'd like to register my utter disdain for this topic, and not just because you're talking about my friends.
A D-I football coach on the "hot seat" can afford in most cases to sit out for years after being fired because of fat contracts.
That is not the same for volleyball coaches, who don't make that much $$$ and usually have families to support.
I know it's sport for many of you to speculate about who might be in danger, but please remember these are real people here, almost all the kind you'd want to get to know. They signed up to coach and mentor young athletes not to be message board fodder when their seasons aren't stacking up the way anyone expected or wanted.

They signed up to be paid "to coach and mentor young athletes not to be message board fodder when their seasons aren't stacking up the way anyone expected or wanted". They are paid professionals subject to fan scutiny. i dont much care for it but accountability needs to be more a part of some of these programs especially where the coaches are being well compensated.
