Massey gives Hawaii a 26% chance to beat Oregon so it's not hopeless. If they play well and get some breaks they could win.

what does Hawaii need to do to stop Oregon or make the match competitive? A couple of things: 1) Limit unforced errors. They can’t give Oregon any free points 2) Get production from everybody not named McKenna Granato. Granato always shows up for big games, she’ll get her kills. 3) Serve tough. If Oregonn is in system a lot Hawaii could be in for a long night. 4) Play with lots of positive energy and get the crowd involved. This could be a huge factor. 5) They need to get touches on the block. Oregon is obviously the favorite both nights but I trust that the Wahine will compete. I 2nd what you said, BIK. To add, the Wahine need to make Oregon earn every single point. Like you mentioned, they CANNOT give Oregon any free points. They also need BIG nights from Castillo, Burns, and Gaskin. Cause like you mentioned, also, Granato will get her's, due to the reason you gave.

Good summary of things Hawaii needs to do vs Oregon. I agree except I think that they're probably going to have to make some service errors in order to consistently serve tough, which IMO they need to do. I want the service errors to be smart ones that show that they're serving aggressively (e.g., a bit too long or wide). It can be hard as a fan to watch your best servers hit the ball a bit long on their first serve, esp if you've just stopped a long run or it's near the end of the game. (Just went through this with Stanford vs Minnesota and some fans do complain even when they agree it's overall a good trade-off.) I hope ppl won't be too harsh on the servers or the coaches if that happens.

My take on SEs: serving should be akin to free throw shooting; your optimal average will be 85-90%. Service errors are not THAT big of a deal, say early in the 1st or 2nd sets. It's timing: They ARE THAT BIG of a deal when at the end of a close set, or killing a run when they Really Need a run to keep goin'. Cannot score if you don't get it in!

so are they University of Oregon or Oregon University? and located how far from Portland? University of Oregon, located in Eugene. Eugene is located half way between Portland, and the California State line.

For Oregon, Ronika Stone is so much fun to watch. Talk about a dynamic middle, she is the one.

I agree, they need to serve tough, if it is slightly long, or wide, that is fine, cause that will make the Oregon players have to decide, if they play the ball, or hope it is going out. What the Wahine cannot do is hit into the net on their serve, or hit so called, homerun serves.

Just wondering why the Wahine are playing Oregon on Thursday and Friday, instead of Friday and Saturday. By playing Oregon on Thursday, it only gives the Wahine 2 days of practice, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Wahine have to take Monday off from practice, per NCAA rules.

Plus if you've consistently served in the corner or end line, you can often sneak in a shortie bc everyone's playing deep for your serve. I hope for none but think there may be one or two net serves. Let's hope they hit the tape and roll over onto Oregon's side instead of going in the middle of the net. internationalball, I completely agree about Ronika Stone. When she's on, she's so much fun to watch. I hope she's not on when she plays Hawaii, though.

I couldn't go to the game tonight because I had a birthday party to go to and I tried to give my tickets to someone (anyone) that I know and got NO takers. Anyway, I just got home from the party and I'm stunned to find out that SDSU took a set off of us! Are you kidding me?! That is one awful SDSU team. SDSU really only has one player that's good: Deja Harris. How the heck did we drop a set to them?

I think this match is a good example of the frustrations of the Hawaii fans. Granato and Iosia had a bad night offensively. Fans expect Granato to be the go to terminator like Danielson/Houston/Taylor. However, all of them were highly rated coming out of high school and Granato wasn't. Hartong wasn't ranked high, but I believe that was due to her being considered a middle that was supposed to transition to outside (I could be wrong). I give Granato a lot of credit for taking on that role, but fans need to expect that she is going to have matches where she is up and down.
Weirdly, if you look at the stats and said that Granto would only have 4 kills and Iosia would have 8, and both would barely hit positive, you would think Hawaii would have lost this match. But other players stepped up. It could be my imagination, but it looked like the sets to Gaskin were a little further from the net, which if correct, may make her more comfortable. And Burns is picking up where she left off at the end of 2017 against Illinois. Even Castillo had a good night. However, despite the fact that the "role players" did a really nice job, Hawaii still got pushed to 4 sets. Hence, the frustrations about not having a strong go to hitter to get them points when they need it.
If everything is going well, Hawaii should have a very lofty hitting percent with all the hitters in their modified 6-2 getting kills. However, Burns and Liva did a decent job with the blocking, but again, they didn't stop a big hitter. SDSU go to player still had 16 kills on a .222 hitting percent.
