The only players to swap sides were Archer and Atherton. Archer’s sides were 4-0 on the day and Atherton’s were 0-4. Archer’s Blue teams dominated the White and then led the White team to two wins. Is that just a coincidence? I feel like the only person Atherton has a good connection with is Wine.

I agree....Archer was a better setter today....the connections with Atherton are overall better but I thought Archer looked more smooth.
I definitely think we look pretty good in a lot of places, coaching staff has plenty of depth and decisions to make. I will try to give more detailed thoughts later.

My thoughts on the scrimmage today:
Coaching: One of the biggest takes I had today that I did not have last year is the coaches were much better. The girls flocked to Mike and he was running everything. Susan was vocal and quick off the bench. Kiki seems very vocal, too. There is a much different vibe this year.
Setters: Annabelle Archer outshined Hunter Atherton today. She's significantly more precise and consistent with her location. I think Atherton is more savvy than Archer but it's hard to argue with her going 4-0 today and Atherton 0-4. I can 100% understand why Eve recruited her back when we were running the 6-2. Atherton looks better but she still isn't connecting well with anyone. I feel like her sets get too much air under them and just carry a bit too much. Nobody seems to be in time with their jumps with her. Obviously, Atherton will be the setter. But, I don't think it's such a bad idea for Archer to get some looks.
Libero/DS: Karenna Wurl is impressive. Her defense was good. Her serve receive was the best on the team. She passed cleanly on all free balls (which we've struggled with before). After today, I would not be shocked if she was our libero to start the season. However, you don't know how freshman will react in their first few games, especially against some Big 10 opponents. So, I equally would not be surprised if Fradenburg was the libero. Eventually, I think Wurl will be the libero and Fradenburg will be the DS. Greer looked very much like Greer and I think she'll get some time as the left back when/if they rest Cox. Ryan Shannon was ok - you kind of forget she was there - and Diaz was solid as well. The depth here is much needed for us.
Middle Blocker: Skyy Howard. Wow. She is going to be a star for us. Not only is she an all-around good volleyball player, she has so much fire that our team desperately was missing last year. She's terminal and she blocks really well. Very athletic. Raleigh Clark is the second best middle we have. She still needs to work on her lateral speed to her left to block an opposite/slide attack but when she gets a good set, she's terminal. Esterley... I hate to say it, but I don't think she gives us much of anything on the court that others aren't doing... and better. I think she's a role player off the bench, in my opinion... but the coaches will likely have her in the starting lineup. Tontai was ok in the middle (she did work exclusively there).
Outside Hitters: Lauren Harrison is terminal. She is a much-needed piece this year. Her serve receive is adequate but she has quite an arm. Not only is she blowing it past people, she has the smart finesse shots and the ability to tool the block very well. Destiny Cox looks significantly more comfortable on the RS and while she still got roofed at times, she looks like she's taken a step up this year as well. Her offense out of the back row on the "D" set is incredible and it looks like it'll be a key piece of our offense. If I remember correctly, she was blocked once out of the back row and the rest were essentially all kills. Both Harrison and Cox blocked very well today... Harrison and Howard blocking together was really, really good.
You can tell Parker Austin just arrived and is learning about the competitiveness of college volleyball but she has tremendous potential. Her all around game is strong. She is the best passer and defender in the crew of pin hitters. However, there were times you could tell she was a freshman. Even though she hasn't quite got the connection with her setters yet, she still managed to finish second in kills on the day and the most important thing is that she didn't make big mistakes. I think she will start but Wine will come in when she struggles. Wine was pretty much what she was last year. Some good swings. Some not-so-good swings. I think her best value is as a role player off of the bench.
Hadden LaGarde appears to have moved to the RS exclusively and she was ok. She didn't get set a lot and when she did they were not great sets. Carly Peck did not play today, I'm assuming she has a minor injury. Erin Boone has essentially no role on the team. She was inserted in the game twice and was quickly subbed back out.
bll10's projected lineup I think will be the lineup to start the season. Should be a fun season to watch and see how these kids grow!

After yesterday,
Setter- it will be Atherton, but I really like Archer. She connects so much better than Atherton. OH- Harrison and Austin. We will just have to deal with some of Austin’s mistakes, but I don’t think it will be as bad as Cox last year because she will not have as much pressure on her like Cox did. I imagine Austin gets subbed out on backrow for a DS(should be Fraudenburg) L- This needs to be Wurl. I don’t care if she’s a freshman or not, she needs to be the libero from day 1. OPP- Cox. She will be a 6 rotation OPP and I thought she looked much more confident and comfortable yesterday on the RS. MH- Sky Howard easily. The other middle should be Raleigh Clark. I felt like she was a step ahead of Esterly.
This team has potential to be very good, and has potential to be REALLY good in the next couple of years.

No need for me to do a long write up. bvolley17 and volleyheels was on point.
This team has the ability to be VERY GOOD this year. And VERY GREAT the next few.
1. Karenna Wurl outperformed Fradenburg. She had steady passes and some amazing digs. She has a savy volleyball IQ amd deserves to be libero.
2. Archer outerperformed Atherton. Atherton is releasing the ball too fast and not giving enough time for the ball to travel consistently. While Atherton is savy, technical skills are essential. If Archer was taller and could block, she would get my nod but hopefully Atherton can work on that.
3. Skyy Howard and Lauren Harrison. WOW. they bring energy and fire we need amd their skills are impressive. Lauren is ACC POY material. She is powerful and smart and will be a key. As will Skyy. She is a terminal all around middle and is essential. Parker Austin has so much upside and seeing her adjust and grow will be a real compliment on the left.
4. Cox moving to OPP is good for us. She still had errors, but her blocking is solid. Her back row offense is absolutely beautiful. She will really help slow down opposing left sides.
5. Second middle definitely should go to Clark. She is most well rounded out of the other options.
All in all, serving looks good, blocking is better. Need a little more practice on passing, and flow, but this team looks exciting.
It will be very fun to watch Harrison and Samedy go at it as well as Hart and Cox the first weekend of play.

Heard another interesting tidbit about practice from a source....
Apparently the staff has toyed with a 5-2...Archer has gotten reps with the "A" team in the back row and Atherton in the front.

I've been thinking about this exact scenario since the end of last season. I'm all for exploring it. I think Archer has a smooth delivery and from the Blue/White match it appears she has some good chemistry with the hitters. She may also potentially provide some better back row play.
I hope to see them run this on Saturday vs. Coastal...

Agreed, to be honest, the players seem to be more steady and stable with her. I know they did this in a few spring games and it was successful. I hear they are practicing that and that currently the "A" team has been Cox as OPP, Howard and Clark as MH, Harrison as OH with Diaz as her DS, Austin and Wine switching at the other OH, and Fradenburg as libero. Really wish to see Wurl there.... Also heard Peck is fine.

That "A" team looks about what I thought it would be. Figured Moseman would be the DS though given she is a Senior but if Diaz is performing I'm all good with going with the youth movement. That also could open the door for Wurl to take the L spot if she performs and Joe isn't locked into playing a Senior just because.
Love seeing Clark on that list... been advocating for her to play more for a while. Excited to see Howard, Harrison, and Austin develop and see how Cox adjusts to the RS. The potential level feels a bit like the 2016 season with that Freshman class... not sure they will have the same success but looking forward to finding out!

Makes sense if they are thinking of using a 6-2 and Cox is not available for the back row attack. Who do you think would be the second Opposite if they play a 6-2? Ari? Hadden? Carly when she is healthy?

Contrary to popular thought, I think Ari looked like the second best middle on Saturday. She serves well and you need one middle to serve. She is not the most explosive middle but when you are 6'5" you do not need to jump as high. She had a ton of blocks and has a better feel for the game than the other contenders behind Skyy. Better serve, very tall, less mental mistakes etc.
And if you can wedge her between Cox on the right and Harrison on the left, you have enough athleticism on the front row for those rotations.

She is a boss on the right side. But, I think Cox stays a 6 rotation opposite where setters switch each other. I am guessing though that Harrison will be a 3 rotation OH this year due to her ACL recovery. My guess is that Joe wants the other OH to go 6 rotations so he needs Wine or Austin whoever gets it to hit the pipe. My vote is Austin. I cannot disagree about Ari....she had a ton of blocks. I just feel Clark has the blocking and hitting combo out of the others behind Skyy. IMO I thought least competitive positions would be setter and middle and there are even competition there. Good indicator of quality depth. If I had to go w a lineup against Coastal I would aim for S: ATHERTON (FRONT ROW) , ARCHER (BACK) OPP: COX, DS MOSEMAN WHEN NEEDED OH: HARRISON, DS FRADENBURG OH: AUSTIN MH: HOWARD MH: CLARK L: WURL

Ari did a great job in the Blue and White scrimmage - what she looses in speed she makes up for in pure “lank”, although her attacking is not as aggressive as some of the other middles. It is not always pure power that counts - as long as the ball hits the floor. 😊

I don't see Peck being a right side. She may end up playing back row eventually. Too much of a tweener and I doubt the 5'11" listed height.
LaGarde was steady on Saturday and presents a big block. She must have the longest arms in the ACC. She looks more physically mature than last year. She will be a late blossomer, in my opinion.
She had few good chances but hit the ball hard when the setter connected with her.
